COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Applehead is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale with a delightful apple aroma and subtle cinnamon flavor. This beer is available in 6-packs, 12-packs and on draft. “We asked Pumpkinhead fans what other flavors would they like to see and their answer was apple,” said director of sales and marketing, Bruce Forsley. “We listened to what our fans asked for and created Shipyard Applehead. Master brewer Alan Pugsley has combined the subtle sweetness of cinnamon and apple with a clean, refreshing wheat ale to create a whole new beer experience.”

Nice light beer, nice carbonation. Very little flavor, but nice hint of sweet apple makes this more nice than similar beers. Pours with very head, and nice color. Not great, but OK.

Pours a clear gold with no head. Strong apple aromas, not much else. First sip is whoa nelly! Spices! Like nutmeg and all those holiday garbage spices. Pure apple pie taste. Garbage.

Clear golden pour with pleasant apple smell, light flavor, very drinkable. Went great with apple maple sausage

The aroma is very pleasant with a fusion of the sour yeast, apple crispness, cinnamon spice, and nutmeg body, which almost smells like a cider, and the appearance combines a hazy orangeish golden color with a large yet fleeting white head. The taste is quite sweet, slightly sour, and a touch umami, which is a very surprising and enjoyable mixture; furthermore, the palate accentuates the taste with its medium body, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a long yet slightly sour finish, resulting in a hearty and sweet yet light beer.

Taste more like cinnamon than apple. Smells good, but doesn’t look appealing. It looks like piss to me.

355ml bottle. Not much to look at, deep yellow, clear, no head. Fairly neutral aroma, little spice and apple. Taste is actually pretty good. The apple is natural tasting, not too sweet or sour, and the cinnamon is not overpowering. Crisp, refreshing body. Overall, better than expected. Couldn't drink many in one sitting, but it went nice with pork chops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I feared an apple-flavored malt beverage, but I was surprised at how much I liked this beer. Light body but not watery. Apple flavor was, appropriately, predominant, with a baked-red delicious apple character that was complimented by light brown sugar and cinnamon notes. Some faint malt notes toward the end state a claim that the beverage is a beer. Interesting, but the sort of beer that you are happy to split and then move on to something else. I like this as an alternative to the pumpkin beers as a fall seasonal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Surprisingly disappointing, but I should know better by now. Malty, wheat, mild apple-spice, cinnamon. But it’s mostly corn-flavored, light malt, watery and lacking in flavor. Shipyard wins again.

Bottle from Four Firkins. Light gold pour with a small white head. Aroma is mild apple and cinnamon. Taste is a muted version of the same. Not bad, but not good either.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2013 bottle with a big thanks to my boi bennett. big sweet spicy brown sugard apples. smells like how one would imagine some kind of apple spice candle would smell. quite sweet. quite spiced. perhaps okay in small doses with some sort of dessert. apple version of all the sweet pumpkin brews. if you like spicy pumpkin brews, this might be your thing. who knows. better than expected, given the label art.
