| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Not a huge aroma: notes of caramel and toffee with just a bit of a twinge of oddness I can’t quite describe. Flavor is flat, like stale cheerios with a drizzle of un-sweet caramel. Palate seems a bit thin even though it’s 8.5%...how did they manage that?! Not great. anders37 (4607), Malmö, Sweden

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 26, 2009 A pretty decent barleywine, and one that seems to be like every other barleywine I’ve had at mediocre brewpubs. Extremely overpriced though, but I guess the gold foil makes it special (along with the tagline of Pugsley Signature Series).
The beer pours out a reddish/brown color with a smaller sized beige head. Aroma is buttery caramel, roasted nuts, with a earthy chocolate note. The alchol tries to hide behind the caramel malts, but it just can’t. Earthy fruit like character, ragged malts, a bit of sweet bread with a jammy finish and an alcholic bite. halfonit (450), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA
