3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle purchased from Tower Package in Atlanta. I didnít find this as offensive and terrible as some people seem to. It is pretty much on par with Shipyardís other beers. Poured a dark brown color with a one finger tan head that disappeared pretty quick. The aroma contains a lot of caramel malt and some earthy hop notes. Notes of dark fruit are present as well. This doesnít have the character of most BWs (brown sugar, molasses, etc.). The flavor is pretty solid. A good malt base gives way to an earthy finish. The body is a bit thin, but the mouthfeel and carbonation are spot on. I found this to be an enjoyable, solid brew.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours to a near black color with a medium sized light head.
Quite sweet, on the nose with a hint some serious funk. Not quite sure if this much action is acceptable but Iíll assume this is intended at this point -- itís borderline sour.
Itís a bit grassy and dark fruit on the palate. Serious figs with a Lot of upfront alcohol (which actually oversells the ABV of this one). Seems almost thin.
Definitely not one of my favorites, especially since I canít tell whether the sourness of this one is intended. I will be sure to try another to update but for the moment itís not anywhere near the top of its game.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle, shared with Katie. This guy was a bit disappointing, considering the price tag. English-style Barley Wine appearance, near black center color with burgundy edges. Some short-lived tan head. Aroma leans smoky, with peat, chocolates, light coffee and charcoal. Dry smokiness persists in the flavor, with nuances of dark fruit, stale hops and a slight vegetative end. Thin and lightly fizzy. Not interesting at all. Eh.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours out dark like a robust coffee with a tall lingering head. Aromas of molasses and roasted coffee persist. Full nectar with mellow carbonation. This brew is heavily roasted and laden with molasses. Not much else but some green vegetation rind. The finish bitters up a bit.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
dark brown with an ruby hue under a small brown head. syrupy appearance while pouring. aroma has notes of chocolate, molasses, caramel with very little hops. different than most BWís. flavor is very roasted much like a stout or porter. lots of chocolate and caramel. a bit hot with alcohol but not bad. dry finish. better than the imperial porter from the same series but this one actually reminds me more an imp porter than a BW.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Samís in Downers Grove, Illinois: The body has the color of dark orange pekoe tea capped by a respectable tan head that fades slowly but completely. The aroma is butterscotch and toffee with a light earthy bitterness. The flavor pretty well reflects that although some alcohol and bitter herbs are added. The finish is sticky sweet with a dirty bitter bite. Okay.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a small cream colored head. Butterscotch and malt aroma. Rich malt flavor with butterscotch and a bit of fruitiness. Medium-plus bodied. Malt, light caramel, and butterscotch lingers.
