Commercial Description:
Barley Wine Style Ale is a big beer made with six different malts (Pale Ale, Crystal, Caramunich, Wheat, Chocolate and Roasted Barley) and balanced with a very full hop charge of Summit, Challenger and Fuggles hops. It is a deep reddish brown color with a complex fruity nose, a very full body, and an interesting balance between grains and hops which ends with a pleasing dry taste. To fully enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. 8.5% alcohol by volume.

22oz bottle 8/1/09 (Sam’s Wine & Spirits-Downers Grove)-Pours a dark brown with amber tints with a small tight tan head. Aroma of sweetness, caramel, toffee, and chocolate. Taste is of sweetness, malt, and alcohol. This full bodied brew was not bad but I wasn’t expecting the alcohol to come across so boldly.

(Rating #2543)

Bottled from Systembolaget Very dark brown. Small, bubbly, beige head. Vinous aroma and flavour with loads of toffee and chocolate, coffee and sweet fruits. Dry cocoa-bitterness.

Bottled: Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is small. Smooth, creamy and chocolately toffee aroma. Flavour was slightly roasted and has notes of chocolate and toffee. The alcohol gives a somewhat harsh finish.
This beer might be the missing link between dunkler bocks and baltic porters.

22 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear deep brown color with reddish highlights and a small tan head. The aroma was moderately sweet caramel malt, fruity, alcohol, but seemed a bit oxidized. The flavor had a roasted malt component, caramel, chocolate, fruity, and a hoopy bitterness. Very strange combinations for a barleywine. I got some diacetyl in this which was distracting.

Bottle from Keg Liquors. Poured dark brown color with an average brown frothy head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate earthy, malt and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. I would share this with freinds and I did.

Pours dark brown with some sparse carbonation. Smells of fruit, boozy, sweet. Tastes sickly sweet and medicinal.

Bottle. A dark brown color with a nice foamy brown head. Rich chocolate malts, ripe berries, raisins, light and smooth on the palate, with a nice tangy bite and a long choco-malt aftertaste. Very different than many barley wines, but I enjoyed it.
