COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Black IPA is for the pirate in you. This is a dark black beer that combines a rich malty character with the crisp flavor and aroma of American Northwest hops. It’s a beer the legendary Blackbeard would have hoisted as he sailed the seven seas. It’s worth walking the plank for!

Bottled at O’Hara’s Zagreb with Ribafish (huge thanks Marin & co!). poured a black/red body with a slow, creamy off white head. Creamy, coffee roasty aroma, nice sweetish and malty, only a touch fishy, but not really hoppy. The taste is slightly deceiving too - it starts off dominated by that roasty coffee, slightly tart, but then, underneath the roast a fresh, vague tropical fruit and lemon hopiness bulds up, carrying it, and making the overall thing somewhat juicy. Nice bitter roasty aftertaste. This ends up being quite enjoyable if you give it the time, and nothing about it is unpleasant really, far from it, though it might disappoint initially those coming for the hops... Nice work!

On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours black with an off white head. Aroma is roasty and piney. Taste is about the same. Pretty good beer. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Bottle - Pours dark brown with a fairly large, creamy head. Good aroma of peach, grapefruit, mango, chocolate, and roasted malts.. It seems kike an unusual mix, but I like it. The chocolate comes through more as it warms. The taste is a little muddled. Roasted malts, then some citrus notes, ending somewhat chalky. As it warms, it becomes more like a chocolate dessert with orange, but I still do not like the finish.

12 oz. can. Pours an opaque ebony with a lasting film of cream. Nose is char, dark chocolate, grapefruit, earthy caramel and a bit of evergreen resin. Flavors of orange chocolate, espresso, green apple and herby char. Medium body has too much carbonation but a good balance. One of the best uses of the overly-fruity Shipyard yeast yet.

12 oz bottle from a friend. Pour was non descript. While it appears to be a porter in the glass, the first smell directs you directly to black ipa. Subtle malt notes mingle nicely with the hops of the IPA. Chocolate and coffee notes are present but in the background Overall- a little thin.

From a bottle nice big black pour. Off white head. Smells a little like malty ipa. Very nice looking dark beer. Yes, a darker beer with ipa attributes. Long bitter linger in there, wew. That bitter linger builds with a crescendo during the session. Finish is likewise. Asa lager lover this is entertaining but cannot say its enjoyable.

Bottle. Dark cola brown, beige head. Sweet roasty aroma, hoppy undertones. Roasted and chocolate malts dominate the palate, fruity hops and light pine come in late, with moderate bitterness in the finish. Decent, maybe a bit thin.
