COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Black IPA is for the pirate in you. This is a dark black beer that combines a rich malty character with the crisp flavor and aroma of American Northwest hops. It’s a beer the legendary Blackbeard would have hoisted as he sailed the seven seas. It’s worth walking the plank for!

Earthy aroma with hints of chocolate, a little coffee, and some citrus hops (really nice aroma), pours black, frothy, tan foam head with bubbles, thins out pretty fast, a mixture of light sweetness and bitterness that finishes bitter, average carbonation, thick and full bodied with what I now can see is a sticky finish (I’m new at this). Lacing I have never tried a black IPA and I am finding this a delicious way to root for Denver to beat Tom Brady and company. A really nice beer all around.

Bottle @ Vagabund Brauerei, Berlin - DE. Color: opaque black beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: malty domination with grassy notes and floral presence. Domination of strong hops. Taste: nice malty taste with good hoppy balance. Aftertaste: notes of chocolate and great bitterness.

A beautiful black appearance and equally beautiful tan head. The aroma of heavily roasted malt is pleasing with a hint of nuttiness and over tones of chocolate and hoppy citrus. The feel is a bit heavy and reminisces of a stout. The finish has a slight but pleasant bitterness. Over all a good beer to relax and drink slowly. Not my first choice for a refreshing on after a days work outside.

Pours pretty well black with a small tan head. Muted nose of roasted malt and a bit of citrus. Roasted malt, a hint of nuttiness, and dull citric hops flavor wise. In fact the whole thing tastes a little watered down. Wouldn’t mind a little more flavor.

Nice blend of roasted hops and coffee, sweet dark cherry, and dark malts. Pours dark black with a frothy head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown with ample tan head. Aroma of roasty chocolate. Initially the carbonation hits you along with a citrus hoppy flavor with chocolate and some toast flavors. Chocolate caramel and slightly bitter finish. To me it's more if a porter than an IPA (I am a big fan of both these styles). If this beer was billed as a porter I think it would have higher ratings.

Bottle: pours very dark, just shy of black with a decent sized tan foamy head. Aromas are roasty... Chocolate and citrus. The flavor is very nicely balanced. Very roasty and chocolatey, but with just enough hops to give it a burst of citrus and pine to show through. Very nicely done, not as in your face as many black IPAs can be. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

---Rated via Beer Buddy by Sátyro

Colore nero intenso, poca schiuma, color panna. Profumi leggeri con sentori di nocciola. Corpo leggero, lieve carbonatazione. Sentori di caffè e nocciola. Amaro finale piuttosto persistente.

Dark Brown with an amber tint and tan head. Smoky roasted malt aroma. Sweet caramel malt with chocolate notes. Roasted malt smokiness. A touch of citrus in finish and some bitterness. Nice. I think the beer is really under rated.

Bottle to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good for the style; a fairly opaque dull dark cola with a bit of translucency at the correct angle. Foamy beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt and bitter roast. There are some hops too, but they’re mostly overpowered by the bitter roast. Maybe a touch of dark chocolate too; again, hard to discern though the bitter roast though. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Not bad, but I’d prefer to see the hops shine through more.
