A classic Irish stout. Full-bodied yet smooth and spectacular in appearance.

Faint aroma of roasted malts and liquorice. Bitter roast taste with some fruitiness too, maybe blackcurrant but without the sweetness. Strong bitterness, quick fading finish. A bit watery.

Poured a bottle into a glass on 12/15/13. Purchased bottle from Quench Beer in Silver Spring, MD (solid, small craft beer selection). Foam head was about 4 inches, piss poor pour, but 4 friggin inches...? Aroma starts with a bitter nose. Light chocolate, coffee tones. Incredible dark brown, almost black appearance. Consistency of the beer as it’s poured appears to be thin. Taste is dry, lightly tightens up your mouth like you’re drinking a cheap wine. Palate confirms what the pour predicted, tastes thin and not what one would expect from a stout. Taste continues with light, bittersweet chocolate and weak coffee. Overall, jrodoo5 said it best, " It’s just uninteresting to me. It’s ok and drinkable but I want more than that in a stout!" Agreed.

Pours black with an insanely foamy tan head that makes it impossible to tell if it leaves lacing or not. Aroma is of subtle roast. Taste is pretty dry until the clean finish. It’s just uninteresting to me. It’s ok and drinkable but I want more than that in a stout!

Bottle. Very dark brown with red tints and a diminishing head. Aromas are raisins and blackberry with molasses and dark cherry. Earthy coffee with treacle and light liquorice and cola. Flavours are dark berries with coffee, cola and chocolate. Molasses with bitter lemon and medicinal notes. Dry on the finish. Decent.

Bottled . This would be better if there was a richer texture to meet the roasted dry bitterness ; smoky vibes. coffee’ish . some dark fruit like plum ...A work in progress..

355ml Bottle: poured into a Gordon’s thistle shaped glass at home on 26th Nov 13. An American brewed Stout bought in rural Shropshire from a national supermarket, something that would have been unheard of only two years ago. The glass suited the beer: the black body and tanned head looked majestic, sadly the head faded very quickly into a thin wisp and collar, what a pity. Burnt dark chocolate notes hit my nose, closely followed by black coffee pot boiling on an open wood fire. The taste followed the aroma nicely: slightly smoked coffee and dark chocolate flavours with a dry mildly bitter finish. Thought the body a bit thin for a Dry Stout but otherwise not bad at all.

330ml bottle from Tesco - Jet black body with a fast dissipating head, ends up looking like Cola. Chocolate malt coffee and smoke nose. Great complex flavour chocolate tart, a hint of coffee and a toasted taste that just keeps going. A full bodied, full flavour stout that is a joy to drink.

Bottle from Morrisons [061113]
Pitch black, frothy tan head, some lacing
Aroma - Light nose, some burnt roast, slight hint of dark sweet malt
Taste of roasted malts, touch of burnt toast, bit of sweet dark malt underneath
Palate - Medium carb, over carbonated, fairly thin but watery body. Finish - rather dry, thin bitter roast, bit metallic from the CO2, but this went away after the beer had been sitting around a while
Overall - This was a bit too fizzy and rather plain overall. Not a fan of this.
