Bottled . This would be better if there was a richer texture to meet the roasted dry bitterness ; smoky vibes. coffee’ish . some dark fruit like plum ...A work in progress..

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
355ml Bottle: poured into a Gordon’s thistle shaped glass at home on 26th Nov 13. An American brewed Stout bought in rural Shropshire from a national supermarket, something that would have been unheard of only two years ago.
The glass suited the beer: the black body and tanned head looked majestic, sadly the head faded very quickly into a thin wisp and collar, what a pity.
Burnt dark chocolate notes hit my nose, closely followed by black coffee pot boiling on an open wood fire.
The taste followed the aroma nicely: slightly smoked coffee and dark chocolate flavours with a dry mildly bitter finish.
Thought the body a bit thin for a Dry Stout but otherwise not bad at all.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle from Tesco - Jet black body with a fast dissipating head, ends up looking like Cola. Chocolate malt coffee and smoke nose. Great complex flavour chocolate tart, a hint of coffee and a toasted taste that just keeps going. A full bodied, full flavour stout that is a joy to drink.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Morrisons
Pitch black, frothy tan head, some lacing
Aroma - Light nose, some burnt roast, slight hint of dark sweet malt
Taste of roasted malts, touch of burnt toast, bit of sweet dark malt underneath
Palate - Medium carb, over carbonated, fairly thin but watery body. Finish - rather dry, thin bitter roast, bit metallic from the CO2, but this went away after the beer had been sitting around a while
Overall - This was a bit too fizzy and rather plain overall. Not a fan of this.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Black with finger thick tan head.
Aroma: Roast slightly smoky malt, toast, hint of liquorice, woody and grassy.
Taste: Low sweetness, medium bitterness and sourness with a slight saltiness.
Palate: Toasty, note of burnt caramel and then bitter sourness in a lingering finish. Thick smooth texture, light body, not at all sweet and average carbonation.
Comments: Very good and glass lace. This review is for the 4.7% ABV bottle version.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Created a soft pillow of foam for a head while the liquid was a dark blackish colored brown. In the aroma, there is moderate usage of roast malts that are evident while also having some characteristics of a coffee. The flavor is bland and empty with a finish of decaf coffee and some cheap bitter chocolate.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
355ml bottle from Morrison’s Supermarket (£1.50):
Dark roasted malts & some chocolate upfront with some sweet notes that follow this. There is some milky chocolate and a dark fruit smell that is pretty standard for the style before finishing with some earthy tones.
Black with a thick looking, quite creamy head that is a dark shade of tan brown in colour and holds well at about a centimetre tall.
Earthy & roasted malts kick things off with a sweetness that is coupled with some dried fruit and darker flavours such as dates and prunes. There is a bitter chocolate taste that follows this with some roasted barley and a little coffee too.
Light medium body and seemed more watery than I had expected. There was definitely evidence of stronger than average carbonation but this died down some as the beer settled.
A disappointment as far as I’m concerned, a beer that was a little thin and definitely lacked in both flavour and smell. A run-of-the-mill stout which is a shame because I was looking forward to this one.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from Morrison’s Middlesbrough. Pour very dark with short lasting cream head. Sweet coffee and liquorish aroma. A bit of a sour taste. Coffee and a little smoke, but also something a bit vegatabley. Too fizzy for my taste.
