Bottle from GBBF 2011 and drunk at home. Black beer with thin tan head. Too roasty. Some decent choc. Too carbonated. There is that papery, newspapery flavour in get in some stouts like this that I just don’t like. Some juicy black fruitiness to balance and some hops on end to complement the carbonic acid bite. It’s just a touch empty. There appears to be no soul in this. It’s a stout by the numbers and not by conviction. Nothing wrong with it. Just not my kinda stout.

Bottle. It pours a more or less black body and a small, dense, dark beige head. Roasted, coffee-ish aroma with a touch of dark chocolate. Roasted, coffee-ish flavor too, also with some chocolate. Dry, full-bodied and quite pleasantly carbonated. Lasting roasted finish. Although a bit one dimensional, it’s a pleasant and tasteful beer I won’t shy away from drinking again. 110819

Dark brown with tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee, with some chocolate as well. Taste is bitter coffee, with a bit of chocolate. Not very rich -- tastes more like a porter than a stout.

12 oz bottle-pours a rocky brown head with ink black color. Aroma is coffee, malt, a crispness/estringent. Taste-the estringent is the first impact, then coffee, malt. Medium body. Not usually my taste, but maybe got an infected one here.

Black with a small tan head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate and a faint roasted note. Chocolate and burnt ashy flavour. Very one-dimensional.

Bottle from BevMo. Pours very black with a very large tan head. Aromas of chocolate and dark toast malt. Medium minus body with mild carbonation. Flavor is chocolate, coffee and really dark malt. A bit thin, but otherwise a good drink. Seems astringent, which might equate with dry. Pretty tasty, but not to die for. I’d pick it over quite a few others.
