Bottle. Pours an amber brown body with a tan head. Sweet malty notes, hints of malt, chocolate, nut, butter and some floral hops. Some roasted malt. Thin body comes together okay.

Tap at OTH. Pours copper, thin white head. Aroma is malty with light fruits. Taste, malty, fruity, more on the light berry side, weak. Not bad, but just very one dimensional with nothing that really stands out.

12 oz bottle. Pours amber with off white head. Smells like lightly roasted malts, molasses and tea leaves. Tastes nutty, malty, and a little sweet. Even a little maple in this one. Not bad.

Draft… More amber than brown with a small, creamy, white head. There are some nice, fat bubbles floating about the top. Mostly caramel and nuts in the aroma with suggestions of toffee and chocolate. Medium-bodied and a little oily with kicked-back carbonation. The flavor is sweet toffee and lightly toasted nuts. Finishes moderately sweet and nutty.

11/17/08 notes: bottle, from Gabe. So I got to try this brew after Old Thumper, and I am not sure to what extent my rating is colored by this sequence. Nevertheless, I came in expecting a soft, malty, earthy flavor and that is exactly what I got. Exciting? No. But drinkable and perfectly “brown”? Perhaps yes. Or at least my friends who prefer this style seemed to think so.
