jeremytoni (568), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Sep 1, 2008 From a bottle poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Decent flavor malty with a quick finish. valpoaj (288), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Aug 31, 2008 From bottle...pours a dirty gold with a moderate white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is full of bitter hops, some sweet malt, and a fairly high dose of skunk. Flavor is nothing great either...the hops are piney in nature and very bitter, and the skunk flavor is still there...something in here is reminding me of a St Pauli Girl...and that’s not really a good thing. Not much malt flavor keeps this pretty one-dimensional as well...bleh. Maybe I’m not cut out for the Fuggles hops, but this just isn’t my cup of tea. Body is thin and borders on watery. My first drain pour in a while... bulletrain76 (539), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 31, 2008 12oz bottle. Clear amber with a nice fluffy white head. Grassy and earthy aroma with a hint of pear. The body is pretty thin and dry, with a harsh grassy and vegetal bitterness. The hopping might have worked with a sweet, caramely malt profile, but the lack of almost any malt character makes this pretty unpleasant to drink. Thin, watery, and almost undrinkable. hughie (2202), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Aug 27, 2008 Bottle from BSF Bar, GBBF ’08. Old gold with a white head. Aroma seemed rather nettly at first, but there was a gradual development that revealed first a canned tangerine sweetness, and then sweet caramel malts. Taste was gently fruity with some piney hops and a mid bitter finish, all overlaid with the sweetness of the malt. Quite understated for an American IPA, and none the worse for that. Sigmund (1938), Hafrsfjord, Norway Aug 25, 2008 12 fl. oz. bottle, bought at the GBBF 2008 for takeaway. Amber colour, big head. Aroma of Fuggles hops, but surprisingly moderate. The flavour is dominated by Fuggles hops as expected, but there is also a noticeable malty sweetness. Some fruity notes and a piney and slightly soapy finish. The bitterness is fairly subdued for an American IPA.
