COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gladiator Essedarius Bourbon Imperial Roman Style Ale is unlike any competitor in the colosseum of craft beers, it thunders into the arena like a charioteer at top speed with notes of raisin, cheery, and fig aromas leading; followed by roasted barley, vanilla, and bourbon barrel laced malt coating your tongue. The smoky finish is dry, lingering and complex. A barley wine style ale of epic proportions.

Dark, opaque pour with thin tan head; decent lacing. Smells strongly of fruit (berries?) slightly too sweet. Taste is malt and fruity sweetness, a little cloying. Some lingering bitterness. Overall, pretty good. Would get again.

Bottle shared by David Rosen. thanks for this shit. Note of raisins, lots of oak, sharp booze. Very thin mouthfeel and boozy lacking flavor. Meh.

750mL caged and corked bottle, courtesy of markwise, pours with a murky muddy dark brown body that supports a nice looking mocha colored head that took some pour height to tease up. The aroma offers up sweet molasses and caramel and smooth candy like bourbon booze. Beneath those notes murmurs a thick stream of thin sweet dark fruity esters. First off, particularly while this is a little too cold, this reminds me of bourbon Angelís Share and Iím really liking it. The taste is similar and seems Angels Share like, to my liking. I get smooth bourbon mixing with molasses and slivers of caramel. Behind those notes are timid little sweet dark fruity esters that mingle about well off in the background. This is s a pretty damn good barrel aged barleywine. Well done.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 750 ml cage corked bottle. Pours a thick inky black with an initial eggshell white head that fades after a bit. Aroma is that of bourbon, molasses, and prunes. Flavor is a little bit over the top and cloying and since I am not one of those that thinks that anything that is barrel aged is golden - this just did not sit right. Strong bourbon overtones, some molasses, just a hint of soy sauce, some sweet prunes. Mouthfeeel is thick enough. About eight ounces would have been enough. Glad this was marked down to $7.99.

I have had this three times now... RBWG, at Brianís moving/cellar cleaning party, and at the epic BA barleywine tasting... all three times it was awful, especially compared to the beers around it. Oddly enough it comes across as sour, salty, hay, and chocolate on the aroma, with a sour hay flavor, roast, and more chocolate, hints of boozy whiskey. Awful stuff.

Dark brown with medium tan-small head. Aroma toasty malt, dried fruit, vanilla. Full body. Some alcohol. Caramel and date-like flavors at first, overall pretty sweet. Then becomes almost stout-like with chocolate and coffee and roasted malts and some wood/oak and slightly bitter finish. Unfocused but interesting.

Pours an amber brown with a paperthin head. Aroma of malt, slight bourbon and oak. Taste is malty with bourbon and too much barrel. Not bad but not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thin, bourbony, slight tartness. Doesnít have a huge depth of maltiness for me but rather a thin caramally sort of maltiniess.

750ml bottle from ABC on Betton rd. Brown pour with a thin off-white that almost disappears completely. Aroma is bourbon, alcohol and dark fruit. Tastes are sweet malts, molasses, vanilla, caramel, light bourbon, little burnt, little leathery. Dry-ish bitter finish. Kind of strange oily thin palate with tingle of carbonation. Tough one to rate - itís good, but kind of all over the place.
