Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

From bottle, pours deep brown with ruby highlight and fading beige head of compact bubbles. Flavor is integrated dark malt with some residual malt sweetness at front and balancing hop bitterness with subtle roast at finish. There is also a nice smooth lager character without fruity esters, medium body and a low alcohol warmth. But there’s the pesky issue of the caramel-like diacetyl that becomes more prominent as the beer warms, even oozing into the aroma.

"after the letdown of the Barleywine last month, I wasn’t expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. Enough hops to balance a bit, but the aroma is dominated by roasted malt, and the f;avor chocolate. Quite tasty. Nice dry finish. Fairly smooth, medium-full bodied. Shipyard’s best that I’ve had...not worth the big price tag though."

Deep black under a thin khaki head, with an amazing aroma of deep bittersweet chocolate, a touch of molasses, a little mint, and some roasty black malt and crystal malt. Big malty flavor with a touch of syrupiness and roast/char, deep bittersweet chocolate, and a wee bit of effervescent herbal tones. A bit sticky and charred, but overall quite roasty sweet and choocolaty. wonderful complex evening sipper.

Bomber - been in my fridge for, oh, 4 years? 5?? Deep brown-black with a huge lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma is very appealing - cocoa, light herbal bitterness, some table cream and a hint of mint. Taste follows, but thinner, and a touch sour. Light body, mild carbonation, surprisingly quick finish with a light cocoa aftertaste. Pretty smooth for an old bottle.

Bottle@pikkis. Black, gushing. Dark berries, blue berries. Some acidic.. vibes. Full bodied soft, chocolate(dark), bitters, sort of dark roasty berry fruits in finish. Ok.

Bottle 75 CL at Pikkulintu. Pours black with big brown mushroom head. Notes of roasted, coffee, citrus, nuts. Very easy and smooth drinkable. Good stuff. Somewhat thin perhaps.

1 pint 6 fl. Oz bottle. Near black, creamy brown head. Sweet aroma, milk chocolate, roastedness, oatmeal. Flavor has milk chocolate, roastedness, caramel. Long sweetish chocolate finish. Thin. Not really an imperial porter though.

[5622-20130811] 625mL bottle. Lightly roasted floral aroma. Clear, dark brown mahogany body with a large long-lasting foamy tan head. Roasted floral grains flavour is a little boozy. Medium body. Tasty. (7/4/7/4/15) 3.7-

Aged for four years in the bottle... Aroma has a hint of tartness, lots of chocolate on the nose... Flavor is fairly thin for an imperial porter, chocolate, nuts, hints of anise, licorice... Solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and a bit of hops. Pours black with a large, light brown head and very little head. Big roasted malt flavors with notes of chocolate but it's very subtle to start. Finishes pretty smooth with more chocolate flavor that lingers on the palate with just a touch of hoppiness at the very end. Pretty good but it lacks the richness and silky smooth mouthfeel of similar beers.
