Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

Bottle at Pivoteka, shared with Hrabren & Jones. Dark amber body, slightly off white head. Sweetish aroma, tropical fruit perhaps, caramel, slightly herbal. Nice, interesting fruity, soapy taste, peaches mostly. Quite bitter aftertaste that grows and grows. Good beer, not thrilling.

Has pine and spice aroma. Deep burnt orange colored body with an off white head that settles to light layer. solid bitter bite with a mild sweet caramel malt flavor to give it balance. A nice blend of west coast and English style IPA’s.

Bottled 355ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb. Dark golden coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, mild caramel in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, herbal/citrusy hoppy and notes of grass with pretty harsh bitterness in the finish. Let’s say not really my type of IPA.

473ml 3 months old can from SAQ. Aroma: caramel, tropical fruits, grapes, band-aid. App: hazy copper, small off white head. Taste and palate: medium body, resinous, watery, and crisp bitter finish. Overall: not really good but was expecting worst than that. Not enough fruity for my tastes and smells band-aid so much as it warms. oxidated? I’m not sure but this is definitively not so good. Should have drank it very cold even though it’s never suggested.

Bottle with twist off top?? I bought a pick 6 for my brother, but saw I needed this and switched it out. Pours hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of caramel malt upfront, with grapefruit and pine. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with resinous hops . Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Hazy light amber color. Nice caramel aroma, but there is an impression of oxidization. Dry, with too much cereal flavor, and too much chicory-like bitterness in the final, covering some timid hop resins.
Quite bad.

500mL can, pours an opaque cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Nose is strong on the malts, with loads of caramel malt, harsh resinous hops, and some fairly prominent spiciness. Flavour is quite earthy and spicy in the hop department, a pretty pronounced fungal quality, some yeast, and dry caramel bready malt. Not a very cohesive or drinkable IPA. Quite a messy beer. Not so good.

Bottle @ home. Clear yellow to light orange color, medium sized white head. Aroma is malts and mainly floral hops with a touch of fruityness. Tastes about the same: malts, floral, floral hops, lightly fruity, a hint of overripe fruit and a medium to firm bitterness. Decent body, medium carbonation.

Contrary to the description, this really struck me as an EPA. Malt and caramel dominated, with some hops to balance things off. Okay. Bottle from Bob.
