Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

Pours a slight hazy amber with a medium lasting beige head, mild lacing. Citrus and floral aroma with some sweet caramel malt, yeast and mildly fruity notes. Taste same as aroma with good bitterness on the end. Palate is a medium body, moderate carbonation. Finish has a good caramel malt character, yeast, mild fruity notes with a citrus floral hops bitterness on the end. Overall a good showing, decently balanced and good drinking.

Pours orange with an off white head. Citric and flowery aroma. The flavor has floral and citric hops with sweet malts and toffee. Just a hint of diacetyl, but not bad.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2013 (Bottle). Compliments of Craig. Slightly hazy copper complexion with thick white head and lots of lacing. The flavor is a traditional English IPA, malt balanced and well hopped without overwhelming the flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep amber pour with a nice thick off-white head. Lightly hazed. The aroma is quite resinous. A little bit of pine but mostly woody/earthy hoppiness. Lots of malt character as well with a touch of toffee and some fairly heavy peppery character. Quite aggressively bittered but the aroma is quite faded in this one. Has an iced tea character that I could do without. Meh - scroll past.

473 ml can from LCBO. Pours a lightly hazy orangey amber with average-sized cream-coloured head. Aroma is caramel, tropical fruit and flowers. Flavour is grainy caramel malt, mango, floral hops and some minerally character. Moderate bitterness in finish. Pleasant.

Can from LCBO this week. Hazy honey coloured body, with rising carbonation bubbles. Creamy retained head. Mild hop aroma. Under average mouthfeel. OK IPA.

It pours hazy amber with copper highlights; the head is off-white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: toffee, mango, and apple. The taste is medium bitter with a light sour/sweet note, it finishes medium-heavy bitter; there are notes of: grapefruit-zest, lemon-juice, apples, and alcohol. The palate is medium bodied, has medium carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Overall, not all that satisfying, though it does have a novel interest to it what with the unconventional apple and lemon flavours.

Very nice aroma. One of the biggest bouquets I’ve encountered in the last year. A little thin and the color isn’t as pretty as I’m used to.
