Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

Twelve ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Club. Clear copper/amber color, good bittersweet aroma with citrus (especially grapefruit) and resin, nice mouthfeel, moderate bittersweet flavor with fruit/resin notes upfront, bitterness most prominent in the finish. The hops side of the flavor could be bigger but this beer is still rather likeable--would be a good session brew.

Ipa molto aggressiva e decisamente amara, con un’anima tutta americana. Molto buona, da riprovare, anche se non vi ho trovato niente di superlativo non č certo anonima.

Draft. Pours deep caramel in color with a thin white head that lingers. Very mild hop aroma over mild carbonation. A nice ipa that is reasonably aggressive but drinkable. Some mild complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle while vacationing in Clearwater, FL. Pours a golden amber color with a thick white head into a snifter. Big aroma of hops....wet grass, fresh cut hay field, pine, pine resin, must. The taste is very powerful hops with pine, resin, must, weeds, and a malty presence. I found it very skunky, musty, and somewhat unbalanced. Very bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not my ideal IPA.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2014 Pours amber/copper with thick foamy head. Smells sweet and lightly hoppy. Moderate hoppy taste with a creamy hop finish. A rather smooth Ipa overall.

A 6.9 percenter. Pours a nice dark tangerine colour with a white head that dissipates quickly to a thin surface head. Leaves some light lacing on the glass when drunk. On the nose I’m getting less citrus than I expected. Some mint, some leafy greens, a hint of caramel and some tea. On the palate, definitely more tea. A very slight bitterness on the swallow. Hoppy dryness. No sweetness. I’d buy this again.
