Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didnít know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailorís rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

Bottle. BBE Jan 2014; Drank Nov 2013 - Amber Gold in colour. Hoppy; grassy and floral hops. Fruity; grapefruit citrus, some lemon. Malty backbone; caramel malts, toffee. Aggressively hopped. Very bitter grassy hoppy citrus fruity throughout. Lingering bitter hoppy aftertaste. Decent.

Bottle. Big up front hops and a very different beer for Shipyard. I guess this is their take on a West Coast. IPAs are not my favorite style and as I got to the end the flavor changed and wasnít as good. As it warmed up a bit of alcohol came through.

Bottle. Sweet strawberry and pine hops aroma with grapefruit peel accents. Almost clear, ruddy bronze under a persistent off white sheet. Bitter hops and sweet bread and brown sugar flavour. Balance towards nearly astringent hops bitterness. Medium light body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitterness.

12oz bottle pours hazy amber with small head. Nose is malty orange peel and faint lemony pine. Taste is bready malt, bitter, some lemon. Finish is bitter bready malt with some faint lemon citrus. Smells hoppier than it tastes, mostly just bitter. OK, Iíve had worse.

Pours an orangey-copper with a 2 finger sticky cap. Aroma is hoptacular - citrus-pine-earthy with fruits and a big whaft of caramalt. Flavor follows aroma with the big west coast hopping slightly out-pacing the malt delivery up front, then it goes dry and increasingly bitter in the finish. A hoppy but easy drinking west coast- styled IPA.

473ml can. Pours a hazy rose tinged pale orange with a beige head. Heavy aromas of grapefruit, with strong green tea notes, caramel, and a very light aroma of what reminds me of paint thinner. As for taste, big tropical fruit up front with some resinous notes, that lead into a very harsh bitterness, and alcohol burn that ends the beer with lemon candy, and a long bitter citrus pith finish.
