COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

[6717-20140903] Can. Honey pine needle sugar aroma. Hazy, orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head and some lacing. Bitter sugary corn grains flavour has a long toasted aftertaste. Medium body. Really odd, not favourably so. (4/3/5/3/10) 2.5

Pours a hazy amber orange colour with a white head. Aroma of nuts, biscuit and strong perfume notes. Flavour of pale malts, strawberries, grass, biscuit, astrigent, perfume and floral notes. Medium bodied, rough mouthfeel and a rough bitter finish with some strawberries again. Not good.

Draft. Pours orange with an off white head. Citric and flowery aroma. The flavor has floral and citric hops with sweet malts and toffee. Just a hint of diacetyl, but not bad.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 11 Jan 2014) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with apricots, citrus and toast. Malty, roasted taste with notes of apricots, orange peel, crisp-bread and a citric, slightly toasty bitterness in the finish. Slightly edgy malt profile. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Not overly complex, but quite well made IPA. Nice one.

Ernest (6727) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 16, 2012
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, corn syrup), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot, resin). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Smells ok, if kinda ordinary and a bit syrupy. That syrup-like aroma unsurprisingly portends the mouth experience; it’s quite syrupy-sweet and sticky. Not much fun to drink. Pretty sour too. Meh.
