COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

The beer pours a clear orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of pine, with some circus peanut sweetness thrown in. The flavor is similar. I get a good bit of sweetness, as well as some biscuit and caramel malt, with some orange and pine from the hops. Low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Tallahassee, FL - ABC Liquors - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a murky dark orange, sticky snow white head with a trace of lacing. Aroma has some slight spruce notes, but is more floral and crystal malt focused. Flavor has some nice grapefruit bitterness, some apricot fruitiness and hint of spiciness. Mouthfeel has a nice tanginess to it. Not bad at all.

Slightly hazy orange bronze colored body. The yellow tinted khaki head is pleasing to my eye. Strong grapefruit is backed up with hints of pine resin with the first whiff. A note of caramel is also detected. Wow, this one is surprisingly bitter up front. Tons of grapefruit from the start through the woody pine resin finish. Dandelions and some bread crust are also present. A pretty good experience overall.

22oz screw-top bottle, thanks to radarsock. Malt-forward hop flavor. Caramel malts, spicier hop, grainy bread. Light over-ripe citrus. Smooth, lighter carbonation, bigger body, with a slight viscosity. Good bitter taste. Hazy darker amber color. Good foamy off-white head, leaves good sheets of lace. Light sweet. Better than expected. Solid English IPA.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav’s place. Thanks Ariel. Hazy orange-amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citric hops, a bit stale, some maltiness and a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish malty flavor with a bit of fruitiness, some citric hops and a bitter finish, a bit harsh. Medium-bodied.

Aroma is sweetish with fruits, resin and caramel. Flavour is rather hoppy with sweetish fruits, resin, some biscuits and caramel. Hints of hay in the finish. Good.

Oh, Shipyard. Shipyard, Shipyard, Shipyard. You know what? At this point, it’s not you, it’s me. I knew what was going to happen, and I went back to you anyway. And sure enough, everything starts out fine. I think to myself "this time its gonna be different" but things calm down, the initial excitement fades, and then BOOM - butter flavors come through and ruin everything. Again. I should’ve known...
