COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

22oz bomber pours clear copper with near white head. The aroma has some vague resiny hops, a bit of fruity raisin esteriness and then that house yeast nearly butterscotch note. The house yeast doesn’t work here for me. The taste is similar as I get hops that are vague and bitter and a bit resiny mixed with the house yeast buttered bread and butterscotch. Didn’t not really like this one. The yeast or maybe it is an off note, just doesn’t work.

Can. Pours a cleanish copper, massive creamy head, spiderweb like lace. Nose is sweet caramel malt, big aroma juicy , citrus hop. Tastes, bitter, but sweet malt

On tap at Old Chicago. A bright IPA with a citrus nose and taste. Taste also has an ash background which reminds me of burnt pinecones. One sip and I like it - the next sip I don’t. I may drink this again, then again I may not.

Smells great with an aroma of strawberries and hops. Pours a deep golden color with little head. Taste is ok, but unbalanced. The hops over power some nice citrus notes. Had on draft at Cappy's Chowder House in Camden, ME.

Maybe I got a bad one, but it was pretty bad. It looked the part as it poured a nice amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma was of pine, and a little skunky. Tasted like an IPA gone bad, with a taste of skunk, sweet corn, pine, citrus, and caramel malts. It had a medium body with low carbonation and zero bitterness. It felt like a lager with hops in it.

Bottled on the road. Nice bitterness after taste, lasts for quite a long time and covers the sweetness of the beer.

Yupppp, tastes just like a monkey’s fist.....fist full of hops, that is! A orangey flaxen pour with a thin white head leaving nice lacing. A bit of a floral hop and honey nose on this primate punch. Big bold citrus and floral hop taste backed by caramel coaching. A good solid mouthfeel and medium carbonation make this a pleasure to pound.

Had it on draft, nice and chilled. Slight IPA nose, deep color, nice IPA bite without being too tart, no bad aftertaste, a good beer to start the evening meal ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Apricot and tea nose. Cloudy amber, thick head, good lace. Tart and bitter apple core, twigs. Medium body, soft carbonation, alcohol not noticeable. Tastes like it might be a little old. I checked the bottle date and it is Best by 05/2013, a month ago. This beer was interesting and quite distinctive. I will definitely revisit this if it comes back around.
