Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Warrior, Glacier, and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didnít know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailorís rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

22oz bomber pours clear copper with near white head. The aroma has some vague resiny hops, a bit of fruity raisin esteriness and then that house yeast nearly butterscotch note. The house yeast doesnít work here for me. The taste is similar as I get hops that are vague and bitter and a bit resiny mixed with the house yeast buttered bread and butterscotch. Didnít not really like this one. The yeast or maybe it is an off note, just doesnít work.

Hazy pure amber color. Thick and foamy beige 2 finger persistent head with some nice activity. Sharp aromas of fruity citrus and toasty bread like. Strong highly bitter flavors of smoky orange peel and clove. Slightly missing some freshness. Medium slick body with average carbonation. Strong and long mouth puckering and astringent finish. Powerful smoky bitter mouth coating of cloves and orange. Overall : Itís like chewing an orange peel, interesting taste but way too bitter.

Rating #1254 - 22.09.2014 - Can from CBI. Lemony piney nose comes out of this foaming straw-coloured pour. Mild caramel malt sweetness with lots of dry hop pine zest in the finish. Good IPA.

On tap. Amber in color with a small white head. This IPA has a lot of pine and spruce notes. Different. Decent.

bottled - nice amber color. Sweet slightly hoppy aroma. Decent hop flavor but has a lesser quality to it (possibly an old bottle).

355ml twist off (!), canít imagine shipping this beer overseas and using a twist off (let alone shipping ipas in non refrigerated containers [hint hint shelton]).. Semi-hazed amber pour, nice foamy off-white head. The aroma is actually really fresh and nice didnít catch a bottle date but it smells nice, grainy and bready but not overpoweringly so, just a nice well-rounded malt-accentuated hop perfume. Flavor is resiny, some fruit notes, nice bitterness dry, jsut a hint of caramel and toast. Not bad. Must be a super-fresh bottle too. Pairs good with the salted broccoli im eating for some reason.

16oz can. Orange/copper tone, moderate tan head. Earthy, orange rind, grassy smell & taste. Seemed like an English/American hybrid. Full-body and medium- carbonation.

Clear copper colored, moderate strong creamy off white head, nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel malts, some biscuit, fruity and floral hops. Taste is moderate sweet caramel malt, fruity and floral hops, citrus as well, some biscuit in the finish, moderate+ bitterness and a fairly dry finish. Moderate+ bodied and carbonation, oily. Decent, not great. (bottle Pivoteka, Zagreb)

22 oz can: Aroma has got a lot of candy like ho textures with caramel notes poking through. Appearance is an amber and somewhat red with an off white head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste has got a hard candy like hop note with a light malt texture intermingled. Palate has got a lingering buttery malt and hop texture in the after taste. Overall, itís alright nothing special. Cheers!

Very light smell, taste is hoppy, maltiness comes in a bit on the end, somewhat sweet, too bitter though
