Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Chinook and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didnít know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailorís rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

22oz bomber pours clear copper with near white head. The aroma has some vague resiny hops, a bit of fruity raisin esteriness and then that house yeast nearly butterscotch note. The house yeast doesnít work here for me. The taste is similar as I get hops that are vague and bitter and a bit resiny mixed with the house yeast buttered bread and butterscotch. Didnít not really like this one. The yeast or maybe it is an off note, just doesnít work.

Can. The pour is a hazy darker orange. The aroma is mild bitter hops. The taste is not good, just tastes like skunk beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: slightly hazy pale amber with one fat finger of pillowy ivory head, excellent retention and moderate patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: herbal/floral, citrus zest, resiny pine, caramel malt, earth. (7/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate-strong bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, dry slightly sticky lingering and building bitter finish. (3/5) Not bad at all. Stylistically, it sort of bridges old-fashioned Northwest-style American IPA and traditional English IPA. Thereís far more bitterness than one usually associates with English IPAs, but the malt is also a strong and rich caramel. Interestingly, that caramel really doesnít come through on the tongue: the sweetness is initially restrained, and drops off quickly leaving a dry (though still sticky) bitter finish that builds. A bit quirky, sure, but not unpleasant at all. (14/20)

Bottle. Muddy but still with a golden hue. The head is thin but quite sticky. This has a clean, almost-soapy aroma. This drinks with a distinctive Anglican tilt, with a rich malty base as the predominate note. There is a bit of that 1980-ish Northwest hop burn, but itís riding on the wave tops. (#6111, 1/29/2016)

Light amber golden color with plenty of head. 16oz can. Clear. Tastes more like a red than an IPA.

Bog standard IPA! Not bad but nothing that would blow your socks off. Would only come back to it if nothing better available.

Esperava mais: aroma pouco pronunciado, carbonatação algo excessiva, gosto fugaz... Enfim, não é das melhores!!!

Hazy pure amber color. Thick and foamy beige 2 finger persistent head with some nice activity. Sharp aromas of fruity citrus and toasty bread like. Strong highly bitter flavors of smoky orange peel and clove. Slightly missing some freshness. Medium slick body with average carbonation. Strong and long mouth puckering and astringent finish. Powerful smoky bitter mouth coating of cloves and orange. Overall : Itís like chewing an orange peel, interesting taste but way too bitter.
