Dark amber color with a tan head. Aroma is a hint of alchol and and root beer. Flavor is subtle notes of toffee and chocolate, with a thick mouthfeel. Not a bad beer to find in a grocery store.

Pours a nice clear amber color with a dense medium light tan head with great lacing. Well balanced aroma, lots of malt with a nice citrusy hop aroma. Taste is quite similar, malty up front with a mild alcohol burn, a nice hop bite gives way to a malty aftertaste.

Pours dark copper with frothy long lasting tan head. Nicely carbonated. The aroma is very sweet and malty. Starts sweet and then makes a full transition to bitterness- very well balanced. Leaves a long losting bitterness / alchohol print in your mouth. At times there seems to be some fruity notes. Feels a bit oily, but very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours deep amber brown with reddish hue. Off white, slightly brownish head. Pleasant, but very light arouma consisting of malt and spice. Taste is pleasantly spicy, after taste is slightly bitter but not too dry. A nice winter ale.

Fizzy, medium-bodied, amber pour. Pleasant aroma. Nutty, brown malts with fairly strong, bitter hops in the finish. A respectable (but nothing special) example of an English strong.

HORRID. It was a drain pour. Odd sour notes, overly fizzy, hot alcohol notes, thin brittle mouth feel....all around not a good beer. Almost as bad as their Pumpkinhead ale. We poured it out and are taking it back.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2008 2006 - Long lasting foam, smells of malt, molasses, taste is sweet, does have some oxidated flavor, like a PX sherry, with the same toffee notes. Good for winter. 2007 is not quite as sweet and little note of oxidation. Still a little bitter for my taste. Pours clear brown, foam not quite as lasting.
