williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Oct 17, 2009 Rouge red colors, like a watered-down Coca-Cola. Big puffy head. Glassy and clear given its depth.
The aroma is good, pungent and slighly sweet, almost like a barleywine. Strong alcohol smell. Hint of dark grape sweetness.
Very pungent sweet grape with lots of alcohol. Like a light barleywine. Very sweet, very strong. Bitter barleymalt balances it. Spicy with some apparent ginger. Minor dry yeast.
Feels thick and chewy. Has a liqueur burn on the way down. Syrupy. Strong, sweet loaded with alcohol. Really a fine beer. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 31, 2009

ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Aug 12, 2009 Best Before: October 2009.
Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, garnet-hued body with a frother, ivory-hued head.
Smell: A primarily malty nose with notes of pale malt, toasted biscuits, semi-dry caramel, and (though very lightly) chocolate. Faintly fruity. Lesser note of herbal hops.
Taste: Pale, biscuity malts with some accompanying tastes of light caramel and chocolate. Medium sweetness. Very modest hint of citrus alongside a touch of dark fruitiness. Leafy, herbaceous hops with no more than a medium-low amount of bitterness delivered. Drying finish with a light, lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: So-so. A pleasant, if somewhat simple English-minded brew for winter or whenever, really. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 9, 2009 Pours a nice rich amber color with an off white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, roast, and spicy. Flavor is caramel, toast, spicy, and a bitter peppery finish. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2009 bottle says best by 3/2008 well its still quite good. hint of raisin and toasted bread and soy sauce with a toasty hop finish that is quite endearing. good little kick with aged caramel in a bit of rum with that aforementioned hop finish flavor too bad it was one of a kind at the palisades in Jersey City. hey someyomes you just get lucky! Dark and dank looking with that bit of nuttiness . EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2009 Bottle, not exactly fresh, but not ancient, either. Dusty, musty, nutty nose reminds of a lightly-hopped Nut Brown. Deep clear mahogany body with a hint of ruby, light brown huge rocky head. Bittersweet taste, sticky-sweet malt with light red berry, caramel, toast, nut, lightly tart grapefruit/orange/cherry. Milk chocolate and seeming lactose. Feels like citrus-heavy American hops late in the boil and English hops during fermentation. There’s some resin in there, too, which surprises. Spices are a little indistinct but nicely earthy. Star anise? Touch of diacetyl. Lightish medium body, soft and creamy, alcohol there but not boozy. A ton of fun to break down, but a chore after five or six ounces.
