COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smashed Blueberry is the newest beer in Shipyard Brewing Company’s Pugsley’s Signature Series line. This beer is a hybrid between a Porter and a Scotch Ale and has a rich mouth feel and a body of complex intensity. Upfront, there are distinct flavors of coffee and chocolate beautifully accentuated by the aroma of fresh blueberries. The finish features a delicate balance of sweet fruit and dry hops. This beer pairs well with glazed duck, ribs, barbeque, chocolate, and blueberry deserts. To fully experience all the flavors, Smashed Blueberry is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Bottle at Bruce’s, London - many thanks to Ken! Pours clear brown with a moderate, tan froth head. Nose holds loads of blueberries, blueberry pancakes, alcohol. Medium to big sweet flavor, lots of blueberry cake, moist cake, some brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Lightly warming finish, lots more blueberry cake, blueberry coffee cake, bready malts, brown sugar, hints of maple. I didn’t expect to like this but I actually really do.

Amazing aromas of raspberrys and blueberrys. Taste is smooth with a long fruityness and a small bitterness.

(Rating #4686)

625ml bottle. Pours a dark, dark brown with a orange/mocha coloured head. Aroma has lots of cocoa, with coffee, alcohol, perfumy blueberry. Very Tootsie Pop. The taste has a floral berry note of the artificial variety, cocoa, vanilla, dark malts, and some bitterness in the finish. It’s not bad, but never in my life have I thought, "Mmm, blueberry, and chocolate." It’s a strange flavour combo that doesn’t really work for me. Still, I’m glad I tried it.

22 oz bottle. Deep purple brown with a frothy tan head. Blueberry comes out even before i lean in for a whiff. Up close coffee and molasses add some depth. Medium body, a bit chalky, with a tang. Taste is chocolate and blueberry with lingering coffee and grass. Reminds me of a grape Tootsie Pop.

[bottle from LCBO] Chocolate and blueberry aroma with some citrus and a pleasant, contrapuntal ethanol note. Clear cola appearance with a lacy, off-white cover. Sweet and ethanolic chocolate cake flavour with blueberries. Excellently balanced with the bitter and chocolate blending well together. Complex. Medium to full body, moderate to medium carbonation, bitter chocolate and ethanol finish. The ethanol in this beer was apparent, but never too much.

Bottle. Pour is a thick dark brown, thick creamy tan head. Sweet and boozy aroma of blueberry, chocolate, a little coffee. Nice thick mouthfeel, as this beer should be, IMO. Complex, sweet up front with a medium hoppy finish. A little boozy, but I let this one sit about 6 months and it probably benefitted from that. Generally a nice balance, if not a wee bit cloying, but it’s probably hard for this style not to be. Still enjoyed it a lot.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with red highlights. White head. Aroma of blueberries and sweet malts with some chocolate. Coffee and chocolate take over the palate. Blueberry is very subtle at first. Hints of caramel are also present. Blueberry comes out way more as the beer warms. Very creamy and velvety smooth. A nice fruit beer.

Dark brown, tan head that fades away quickly. Nose is canned blueberries, roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts, canned blueberries, wet cardboard. Bitter chocolate finish. Very thin. By far its best trait is that the alcohol is very, very well hidden.

Bottled tasted at Hilpeä Hauki. Mild chocolatey nose. Pale brown fast disappearing head. Dark black color. Slightly sourish fullfilled taste with some hints of coffee and blueberries. Fruity and hoppy taste with some licorice too.
