Smashed Blueberry is the newest beer in Shipyard Brewing Company’s Pugsley’s Signature Series line. This beer is a hybrid between a Porter and a Scotch Ale and has a rich mouth feel and a body of complex intensity. Upfront, there are distinct flavors of coffee and chocolate beautifully accentuated by the aroma of fresh blueberries. The finish features a delicate balance of sweet fruit and dry hops. This beer pairs well with glazed duck, ribs, barbeque, chocolate, and blueberry deserts. To fully experience all the flavors, Smashed Blueberry is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Very dark with a pale head. Aroma is huge on the blueberry, plum. Medium-light bodied, fruity on the palate with a hint if roast on the finish. Taste is blueberry, plum, chocolate. Yum.

pours black with a non existent head. The aroma of blueberries is awesome when you open this one . The taste is light blueberry and a lot of bitterness.

Bottle. Wow! Big blueberry aroma when you open it. Well balanced with blueberry sweetness and chocolaty bitterness.

Looks like coke when poured into a glass. Strong blueberry aroma when bottle first opened which dissipates with time. Fizzy in the mouth with a treacly taste at first, smooths out quickly to chocolate flavours and finishes with fruity blueberries. (K)

You have to get this beer fresh. The blueberry taste will fade over time, same as Smashed Pumpkin. It’s mostly Porter like when taking a sip, but the finish is a good blueberry jam like flavor. You need to get it fresh.

Dark and sweet tastes like blueberry pancakes. Porter mixed with a scotch ale is a great description. Chocolate mixed with blueberries. Nice high octane brew.

Awesome aromas of blueberry muffin. Taste was more chocolate and blueberry. Had it from a bottle at a party.

Stunning. Open up the bottle, blueberries. Pour into the glass, blueberries. Finishing note, blueberries. And yet the taste is not blueberry dominant, merely prominent. Let's the porter base come through quite nicely (sorry, not getting Scotch ale). A. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Confused on aroma, it smells just like fresh blueberries, even a blueberry muffin, which was nice, but at the same time strange in a beer. Dark opaque near black color, khaki small head. Flavor had the same fresh blueberry, with a bite, some astringency from black roasty malts, bitter dark chocolate, almost acrid - here the blueberry really failed to mesh with the bitter astringent malts. As the beer approached room temp, it became a little sweeter and this helped a lot, it was a lot easier to finish than it was to start (started around 55 deg, finished closer to 65-70)
