3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ Bruce’s. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The nose is quite artificial. Bright Entenmann’s blueberry muffin. Refined sugar. The taste is moldy blueberry muffin. Pancake mix. Somewhat grainy on the finish. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, OK. Better than expected.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle, thanks to Ken @Bruce’s. It pours darkest brown with a medium light tan head. The nose is intense artificial blueberry, over-ripe berry and plastic. The taste is roasty, toast, earth, berry, sweet blueberry, dark fruit and light bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. The smell is so sweet it makes me feel a bit ill. Tastes not too bad thankfully.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a hint of purple, kind of like prune juice. Head is a one finger khaki cap with a good amount of lace. It’s not gonna win any awards for looks. Sweet blueberry aroma with secondary chocolate and coffee. Flavor starts with a porter like bitterness then sweetens as you get into it. Full palate. I’ve been passing this by for months now, thinking it would be horrible. The only reason I got one is a friend brought it to the house. I have to say, it wasn’t bad.

Aroma is sweetish and nice with bilberry pie. Also hints of vanilla. Flavour has bbilberry juice, some roasted notes and hints of vanilla. Finishes slightly acidic. Unique and good.

21st May 2013
’Paul takes a brown shower’ tasting at Bruce’s pad. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Big blueberry nose. Palate is softish and dry. Brown malts, feels like a Scottish ale. Mild tangy blueberry, much less intense than the nose. Dry creamy malt finish. Hangs together okay. A bit different.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured into a perfect pint.
3.5 A: Deep brown color, almost black. Two fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is decent for the ABV and a short ring of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Holy fuck the blueberries! I would say that this is the first blueberry beer I’ve had that didn’t half ass the blueberries. Blueberries in this are potent as hell and I love it. Lightly smoky with coffee, caramel, and toffee notes. Good amount of sweetness to complement the massive blueberry nose. Smells wonderfully fruity and that is that.
4.0 T: Blueberries aren’t fruit twin level fruitiness in the taste, but are still way more potent than the vast majority of blueberry beers. The balance between berries and base beer gets shifted more to the base beer. Coffee, caramel, and roastiness are the most prominent flavors. Tart blueberry next. Toffee, grainy malts, a bit of chocolate, toastiness, and a moderate bitterness follow. Earthy and lightly citrusy hoppiness. Overall, pretty good.
3.0 M: The mouthfeel is the weakest link in this beer. Medium body with moderate, but biting carbonation. Lacking creaminess. Not as smooth as I’d like, but sufficient.
3.5 D: Pretty good blueberry beer. Buying this just to smell is rewarding enough, but drinking it ain’t bad either. Shipyard has put out a lot of stinkers over the years, but this isn’t one of them.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Bruce’s, London - many thanks to Ken! Pours clear brown with a moderate, tan froth head. Nose holds loads of blueberries, blueberry pancakes, alcohol. Medium to big sweet flavor, lots of blueberry cake, moist cake, some brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Lightly warming finish, lots more blueberry cake, blueberry coffee cake, bready malts, brown sugar, hints of maple. I didn’t expect to like this but I actually really do.
