3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber bottle and served in standard pint glass: Pours much darker than I expected, sort of like a porter with browns and ruby highlights topped by a light beige head and spotty lace. The nose has plenty of blueberry character but closer examination reveals some roast, chocolate, butterscotch, caramel, and herbal hops vapours. There is some plastic notes as well which does drop the score slightly.
The taste is twangy and fruity for sure but I like the sublime hops and the chocolate tones that embrace the blueberries. Really, with the bold alcohol and the finishing hop bitterness this became a shocking discovery. It is also a case where the Diacetyl commonly found with the British yeast that Shipyard uses actually helps not hinders the flavor profile. The mouth feel is lively and brash, a tad thin and the finish is short. The weakest part of the brew IMO. After my disappointments with some of the latest Shipyard brews I held my expectations in check, this far exceeded them. (note: I love Blueberries, chocolate, porters and scotch ales so my rating would likely be higher than most) A WOW MOMENT... sorry all you Danes, but you’re utterly wrong about this beer and proving the rating is indeed a moment of time between the rater and the beer. So sayth a guy who home brews a 10% Blueberry Imperial Java Stout. :-)

Awesome aromas of blueberry muffin. Taste was more chocolate and blueberry. Had it from a bottle at a party.

Stunning. Open up the bottle, blueberries. Pour into the glass, blueberries. Finishing note, blueberries. And yet the taste is not blueberry dominant, merely prominent. Let's the porter base come through quite nicely (sorry, not getting Scotch ale). A.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Confused on aroma, it smells just like fresh blueberries, even a blueberry muffin, which was nice, but at the same time strange in a beer. Dark opaque near black color, khaki small head. Flavor had the same fresh blueberry, with a bite, some astringency from black roasty malts, bitter dark chocolate, almost acrid - here the blueberry really failed to mesh with the bitter astringent malts. As the beer approached room temp, it became a little sweeter and this helped a lot, it was a lot easier to finish than it was to start (started around 55 deg, finished closer to 65-70)

Bottle - chosen because my wife loves blueberries. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head and some lacing. Aroma is very blueberry, with notes of roasty, cocoa, molasses. Flavor is fairly sweet, but with decent counteracing bitterness, and a pleasant blueberry-stout mix, fruit forward so I can see why this is categorized as such. Medium to lightish body for the style, plenty of carbonation. I was honestly not expecting much from this one, but it was not bad at all.

Imperial blue berry porter. Pretty damn unique. And awesome. Mix between a scotch ale and an imperial porter. Clever. Very clever.

Pours black with a thin brown head, strong aroma of blueberry. Tastes like coffee/chocolate up front with a subtle blueberry. That flavor begins to fade but then it hits you with another dose of the blueberry on the fiinish after a small delay. Very smooth and drinkable beer. This would be good for someone’s first foray into the world of dark beers. Nice.

22oz bottle from Goebel in KS, Love it or hate it, blueberry edition.. nose is very much blueberry and taste doesnt quite meld as well as I thought it might, the berries kind of get lost then appear at will during a sip.. still a unique experience and another fruit beer tried.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 (?) 22 oz bottle served in a Sweetwater Blue pint glass.
Pours thick and dark with a dense, tan head that has excellent retention.
A malty beer with plenty of natural blueberry aroma, more subtle bluebery flavor and a noticeable hops presence.
Well balanced flavor profile: bitter-sweet, a touch of tartness. Excellent level of blueberry for this malty brew.
