COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smashed Pumpkin is a big-bodied beer with a light coppery orange color and pleasing aroma of pumpkin and nutmeg. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body. Pale Ale, Wheat and Light Munich Malts combine with the natural tannin in pumpkin and the delicate spiciness of Willamette and Hallertau Hops to balance the sweetness of the fruit. To fully enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Smashed Pumpkin pairs well with sharp cheeses, nuts, lamb, hearty stews and desserts like flan or pumpkin pie. Chefs find this an excellent beer to cook with in dishes such as braised short ribs.

Pours a clear golden amber. It has a rich aroma of clove and pumpkin with a nice spice background. The flavor is pumpkin and spice up front with a malt middle and a sweet but balanced aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. The aroma is highly spiced with pumpkin pie spices and bready pie crust. The flavors are along the same lines. The spicing is over the top.

Strong nutmeg and pumpkin aroma. Nice aroma, maybe strong on the nutmeg. Taste is very malty, and slightly boozy. Low carbonation. Tastes a bit sticky palate and sweet. Pretty authentic pumpkin flavor, strong nutmeg though. Good but not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, screw top. Nose is a bundle of pumpkin pie spices, heaviest on nutmeg and cinnamon with vanilla not far behind. Actually really inviting! Deep golden moving toward reddish-amber with lots of very slow-moving carbonation, a short but tight off-white head. Nose is very sweet and seemingly amplified in sweetness by the above spices, which pickle and flit and generally do a good job despite the artificial drag that lay on a pretty decent malt base. Very light wheaten smoothness, gentle fullish body throughout with a relatively well-controlled booze level, earthy low bitterness seeps in with volume, and this on the whole is a pretty enjoyable representative of style before volume accumulations take their toll.
