Smashed Pumpkin is a big-bodied beer with a light coppery orange color and pleasing aroma of pumpkin and nutmeg. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body. Pale Ale, Wheat and Light Munich Malts combine with the natural tannin in pumpkin and the delicate spiciness of Willamette and Hallertau Hops to balance the sweetness of the fruit. To fully enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Smashed Pumpkin pairs well with sharp cheeses, nuts, lamb, hearty stews and desserts like flan or pumpkin pie. Chefs find this an excellent beer to cook with in dishes such as braised short ribs.

Pumpkin spice. Really tasty specialty beer. One of the better one I have tried. Would pair well with numerous foods

It has a deep amber body with good clarity. It also has a nice level of visible carbonation which supports a good creamy off white head. This head has good retention and makes for lots of lovely slick lacing on the glass. The aroma has loads cinnamon and other pumpkin pie spices over a delicate squash and malt mixture. There is a nice mixture of pie spice like cinnamon, ginger, and a touch of clove up front and throughout. There is also a good squash-like (pumpkin) flavor note with pie crust like malt. As it warms the cinnamon and spice come out a bit more. Its 9% ABV is also noticeable and adds another level of complexity and warmth. The body has a solid medium to full body with pleasant lively texture. The carbonation helps to keep thing from getting sticky or cloying as there is a good level of sweetness. Hops are barely noticeable but do offer just a touch of leafy/herbal bitterness towards the finish.

Pours a nice deep copper color with off-white head. Pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, caramel malts, and some sweetness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more pumpkin.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Sweet, liquor aroma. Tastes sorry of like bourbon. Coppery with a mild head. Not a fan of this one.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a hazy copper/orange colored body with a very thin slightly bubbly head that dies before it was even noticed. The body was too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell had nutmeg, cinnamon along with some light cream and vanilla, pumpkin was very subdued. The taste was basically the same with a semi-bittersweet finish, combined nicely between the sweeter flavorings and the bitterness. On the palate, it sat about a medium with some slight sharpness here and there on the tongue. This wasn’t a very drinkable beer - one bomber and done (if one could do the whole thing). Overall, I’m honestly not that impressed at least for me, but for the "pumpkin" style this is good, if you’re into that sort of thing.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter at about 55F. A: Poured, appropriately, a color close to pumpkin orange; clear with a modest head. The head quickly reduced to a thin partial coat and ring. Aroma: Sweet, fruity and lightly spicy with roasted winter squash and cooked cherries. Subtle "pumpkin" spicing seemed almost entirely cinnamon. Attractive. T: Moderately strong, with cooked pumpkin, cinnamon, and a touch of nutmeg. Lightly sweet with the fruitiness of ripe apples and cooked cherries. Feel: medium bodied; slick and smooth feel; alcohol imparts warming and slight astringency on the tongue. O: a refined pumpkin ale with partially hidden alcohol and subtle spicing. Recommended.

Poured from a large bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer was a very hazy and cloudy light amber-straw color with a modest foamy white head that had short retention, average cling, and good lacing. Its aroma featured a nice blend of nutmeg and pumpkin spices along with brown sugar, cinnamon, and some earthy and grainy hops. Its taste was a somewhat sweet blend of spices, pumpkin, and malt, which gradually gave way to a more sour and slightly bitter pumpkin and grain effect. The beer had a pretty full and wet mouthfeel with decent carbonation and a touch of creamyness.

650ml bottle. Deep orange colour, cloudy, not much head. Nutmeg, brown sugar, cider, and pie crust aroma. Big pumpkin over a strong malty taste. Not much alcohol. Body is a little oily, kind of wet. A good pumpkin ale, but the Smashed Blueberry was quite a bit better.

A very heavy version of a seasonal pumpkin ale. All the pumpkin and spice you would expect but with a very full bodies and hopped beer behind it. The nose is fresh pumpkin purée and to its credit it is heavier on the gourd than on spices unlikely seasonals. It's a bit hard for me to get used to but it definitely is not a typical pumpkin beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hoppy Halloween! Pugsley!!

You need to get this beer as soon as it is released. The flavor is greatly diminished if you let it sit. It is every thing you want in a Pumpkin beer. It’s hard to say if this is the best or Southern Tier. I think this is slightly better, not as sweet. Drink it fresh.
