Had this on draft at St. John’s the tap room. Orange red pour. Medium white head. Spicy pumkin aroma. Smells awesome. Sweet taste. Too much pumkin. Smell way better than taste

Bottle at home. Pours a great rich orange with very little head. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon and slight clove with a slight background of earthy hops. The mouth-feel is a little light for me. The carbonation level is appropriate. Has a great sweetness with little to no bitterness. Without a doubt my favorite pumpkin ale.

Tasted in 2009 (backlog). Copper in color with an average sized off-white head. Aroma is pumpkin, tons of cinnamon and brown sugar. Taste is the same.

Bottle to pint glass Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, caramel, and carrots. Appearance is slightly cloudy amber with a long lasting bright white head. Taste is pumpkiny with some cinnamon and some late alcohol.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Light foam that dissipates very quickly to a ring around the edge. The color is a wonderful crystal clear orange. One of the best looking pumpkin ales I’ve seen. Nice scent. Prominent pumpkin and spice. Slightly sweet. The smell is mostly gone after a few minutes. The taste is primarily pumpkin and spice. Somewhat bitter but I can’t tell if it’s hops or the spices. The mouth feel is unusually light for a 9% beer. It drinks almost like a soda. No noticeable alcohol taste. Overall this is a good pumpkin ale but not as good as I expected. Does not stand out in the crowd. The light mouth feel is unusual. **The label is very cool. It alone is enough to convince me to buy it. Very nice work.

Dark in color, thin head. Nice aroma with a light pumpkin lingering. Nice malt and hops additions This was a tasty beer.

Bomber bottle. The aroma is spicy. A good skunk is also present. The appearance is a murky bronze with little to no head. The taste starts into the spice early. Gets sweet malt and cinnamon early then rolls into sugar sweet to finish. The palate is nice. Overall, a good pumpkin beer fo sho. November 16th, 2011 - My operationalization of pumpkin beers is a unidimensional line. On the left are those that taste like a raw pumpkin, vegetable and almost bitter. On the other are brews who aim for or land at something a little more processed, like a pumpkin pie. These tend to be sweeter and more complex, but prone to excesses, and can quickly becoming cloying. The Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin, however, levitates magically above this line, adding a new axis and a second dimension to my pumpkin beer assessment measurements. This is because it adds a third pole of fruitiness, a nice and clean citrus that I’ve never seen so pronounced in a pumpkin beer. To return to the beginning, the Shipyard glows with an appropriate deep orange color, with a clarity and column of fizz that suggests easy drinking and sipping. The nose opens with a touch of tang and acidity, a hint of white grape dryness, and there in the center is a rich, deep pumpkin flavor. At second glance, there’s a sweet fruitiness wrapping itself around the column of pumpkin, a kind of bright, sweet and smile-inducing ripeness that is sweet but distinct from the deep sugars of the pumpkin. I lean back for a moment to return to the aroma, and now catch bits of juniper and orange marmalade in the aroma. Back to the taste and the flavor of ripe orange is even stronger, playing well with the pumpkin sugars. A fine beer by itself, Shipyard’s Smashed Pumpkin earns bonus points for expanding the space a pumpkin beer can travel, and teaching my old palate new tricks.

Foil-capped screwtop bomber. You don’t see many of those, and with good reason.

Pours hazy orange with a creamy but descending white head. Sweet nutmeg aroma, maybe a little cinnamon in there somewhere? Sweet full body, spicy pumpkin pie taste, not too sweet, but sneaking up on it.

Bottled. Semi-sweet, medium bodied. Very spicy taste, malt, caramel, cinnamon, quite fruity, reasonably well balabced. (2009-09-25)
