2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
A - Pours a cloudy gold with a dense white head with great retention.
S - Lemon Citrus grain, wheat, husk, pale malt.
T - Lemon, wheat, pale malts, twangy husk, water apples.
This is a lackluster summer ale. It is more of an American pale wheat. It is far from an APA. An okay beer. Watered down and thin with a touch of sweetness.
Serving type: on-tap

More in the Belgian than the German wheat beer style, this is a commendable effort by the people at the Shipyard Brewery. True to Belgian style, it smells of coriander and citrus, and is slightly sweet and yeasty. With what you might call a ’well-rounded’ mouthfeel, this is a very nice beer. As for the artwork: a lobster in a deckchair?

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Wheaty aroma has a yeasty overtone and floral hints. Pours a clear solar yellow with a decent but not too persistent white head. Flavor is wheaty, a little yeasty, with again that floral touch. Texture has about average fizziness and body, not bold but not watery. Refreshing and summery, if not outstanding - have one while passing the time on a sweltering day.

On tap at The Wharf. Pours a light copper color with a thin white head. Some fruity aroma. Taste is somewhat forgettable, some esters that come in about all of Shipyard’s ales with a bit of fruityness and a little bite at the end.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow/gold with white head. Smells like citrus, bread, wheat, must. Tastes like light fruit, bready malts, and some hops. Light body and medium carbonation.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Not much to offer from me on this one. Some light citrus, some light dough, not much body at all. Could do worse after the proverbial lawn mowing, but you can do better.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
12oz bottle. Best enjoyed before October 2013. Mildly hazy golden orange color. Thin bit of slightly off-white head, few short thin reaches of lace. Moderate sweet taste, light tart. Some slightly musty wheat, light tart and tangy orange citrus, light lemon. Medium body. Light, kind of soft, textured carbonation, lightly sticky finish. Not a terribly impressive wheat ale. Not bad in any particular way, just mediocre in every aspect. Wouldn’t even recommend to a wheat ale lover. This especially pales in comparison to Half Acre’s excellent Akari Shogun wheat ale, which I just tasted two beers ago. It’s like opposite ends of the spectrum, here.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 8/17/13
Aroma: This one has a nose of citrus/fruits, yeast, bread, and a little grass
Appearance: A clear gold-orange pour with a small, quickly dissipating head and mild lace
Flavor: The taste is alright, light-mid sweet, fruit, yeast, and a clean lightly bitter, grassy finish
Palate: The body is on the lighter side, it has some fizziness, and a mild dryness
Hey, it is not bad, but isn’t really so good either. This made for an alright summer beer that I could drink again, and would work just fine by the pool, but certainly won’t blow you away with flavor.
