Commercial Description:
XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass. The color is a clear copper with a finger or two of foamy white head, some little lacing. The smell is a little malty with some strong citrus flavor and some slight floral hop flavor as well. The taste is sweet some nice malty flavor. As expected the hops come out to be heard. Citrus hop flavor does is present but is a bit muted. It mixes with a tangy, acidy flavor that is a bit bitter and make me clear my throat after a few sips. The feel of this beer is medium bodies with some low carbonation. I was expecting a bit more of a fizz from a beer that was expected to be quite hoppy but the sizzle just did not seem to be there. I enjoyed this beer but I think there could be some tweaking to be done to make it a little more enticing.

Deep amber pour. The nose has a bit of herbal/piny hoppiness over a fairly chewy malt sweetness. It’s quite light and spicy but there is a lot of honeyish/malty sweetness on the back. Meh… about what I’d expect.

Bottle. Amber pour some head. So much for this IPA, XXXX? yea no, soapy oxidized IPA, some awful flavors and alcohol presence.

Bottle. Pours a dark golden color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy grapefruit aroma with hints of pine. Hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor with some malty hints. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter grapefruit finish with a bitter aftertaste.

22 oz. bomber courtesy TheManiacalOne, thanks Mark! This beer poured a dark, murky and very hazy brown amber with a 2 finger head. If I didn’t know any better I would have guessed that someone just took a sample from a dirty pond and handed it to me. It had very good lacing throughout the sample however. It smelled of old hops, faint citrus and malt. I couldn’t get anything out of this beer. The carbonation was slightly above medium carbonation. I found the taste to be very astringent and dry. There was no balance between the hops and the malts. I couldn’t finish the entire bomber much less a whole pint. I could not recommend this beer to anyone. It was unbalanced and overly hot.

Bottle courtesy of Joe at Paul’s tasting. Pours a lightly hazed brown amber with a thin white head. Lots of citrus hops, and a good deal of caramel malt, leading toward oxidization and plums. Medium bodied, light caramel tones, lots of earthy hops. Finishes up with a long bitterness and earthy texture.
