XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG. 22 Plato

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2011 Boy! You really really need to let this beer warm up to get it’s full explosion of flavor. If you do that, wow! Really fabulous flavorful double. Heavy duty and has that English Thumper personality.

Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured a clear copper color with a average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus and malt aroma. Medium body with a slick dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a very drinkable beer and my expectations where met.

Dark amber with a rocky light tan head. Citrusy aroma but also some sweet caramel malt. The bitterness on the flavour remind me, at first, of extra strength cough lozenges. Not in a bad way, mind. I swear there are medicinal flavours skulking about that remind me of Fernet Branca. Thick, caramel malts kick it off with a tinge of sweetness and then the bitterness and all sorts of stuff rolls in. Well, this one won’t be accused of not having body to carry the bitterness.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2009 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a clear amber with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma of pine, malt, and fruit. Flavor is malty, pine, citrus, faint sweetness. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body with high carbonation. Overall, not bad at all!

22oz bomber. Pours a clear copper color that produces a brilliant white head and a load of lacing that coats the glass throughout drinking. Aroma is quite sweet, with lots of candy butterscotch and ripe grapefruit and medium strength hops. Flavor follows suit with a solid malt profile, a touch of apricot and more grapefruit. Finish is dry with medium bitterness. Hops are a bit lacking throughout, and a touch unbalanced. Pretty tasty.

Bottle (LCRBM 09): Clear, amber coloured, full hoppy nose combined with a distinctive malty background; solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; lingering balanced hoppy-malty finish. Well rounded, fine IPA.......

A very nice surprise from Shipyard--much better than their regular beers. This has lots of carmel up front, a dry bitter finish with a smooth alcohol warmth at the end. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2009 Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Clear golden pour, large head. Sticky hops on the nose. Spicy hops, large feeling. Wow very fat hop taste. So large it’s almost spicy. Sticks to the tongue long after the swallow. Alcoholic feel on the finish as well.
