XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG. 22 Plato

Sampled from a 625m; bottle - Having sampled Shipyard’s strong fruit beers – (smashed blueberry and pumpkin) I was not enthusiastic about this big IPA because I found their blueberry and pumpkin ales to hide their high alcohol volume poorly – both had a strong fusel alcohol smell and were “hot” on the palate. How wrong it is to judge a whole line by a few"average beers – the best of the lot is this XXXX IPA. It’s big in flavour and alcohol but it hides the booze well with huge crystal/cara malts and lush west coast hopping. It’s HUGE! – but drinkable and neither hot from alcohol or too bitter from hop infusion. Rarely have I tasted a big IPA at 9.3%abv that hides its booze so well.

12 oz bottle. Tasted on 4/29/15. Bottle from The Cellar Norman, OK. A pretty decent double IPA. Nice bitterness to it with some e grapefruit & slight darkness. Not too bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the Green Growler. Average looking pour. The rich, sweet aroma is the star of this show. Unfortunately the flavor lags behind - dry with dashes of grapefruit, pine, & yeast. A solid brew but not a first rate imperial.

Beige, frothy head, not very persistent. Amber, fairly cloudy. Fairly intense and persistent at nose. Honey, caramel , raisin, resinous, citrus, a hint of chocolate, Average carbonation. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate. Warming sensation but not heavy sensation of alcohol.

One glance at the bottle and....I am not sure really, it looks classy and greasy all at the same time. What lurks inside is a fantastic brewski, why it isn’t rated higher for style I am not sure? Is the SRM off? Is it too sweet? Whatever, style bitchiness aside this is a pretty fuckin’ tight ale. Barreling off of a dark copper body come audacious aromas of peach, tangerine, sweet grapefruit, pineapple, honey and some wee vinous hints. T’is a big, bold fruity IPA , headed up by off-white foam. It is pretty much on the sweet side but enough grapefruit zing saunters in late, managing to hold this tropical train on it’s tracks. With a full mouthfeel and a fine lingering lusciousness consisting of sweet and citrus fruit, this booze-hiding big’gun is very much a tasty pour.

Bottled 355ml. -at O’Hara Zagreb. Clear amber coloured, small off-white head, caramel and alcohol in the nose. Moderate sweet malty, caramel, dried fruits, hops and alcohol with pretty short and weak finish for nearly 10%ABV.

Bottle at O’Hara Zagreb, with Ribafish (huge thanks Marin & co!). Poured a darker amber body with an off white head that went away relatively fast. Sweet earthy, more malty than hoppy aroma, ok. Though I feared that would mean a sugar bomb, the taste disproved me quickly - lemongras-forward hop, on dry maltiness - slightly figgy, caramelly, which is overrun by a good bitterness. Quite tasty beer, I like it!

This is a really nice iipa. Pours an amber color with white head. Aromas are quite malty. Bread, sweet yeast. Nice sweet malts up front with a hoppy finish. Not crazy complex .. But a very approachable double IPA. Alcohol is very well hidden

Tap. Pours clear deep amber, medium creamy beige head, lung lasting, great lacing. Aroma is a bit butter, grapefruit, caramel, pine. Flavor has butter as well, medium sweet and medium bitter, pine, some citrus. Full body, creamy.

pours a light red or amber with thin tan head. strong floral aromas. taste is strong citrus - some orange which shifts more to light grapefruit in the finish. Some alcohol is evident, but, for the most part, very well balanced for its strength. If the IBUs were a bit more subdued, this would be a surprisingly easy-drinking high gravity beer.
