COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG. 22 Plato

Bottle from city beers, clear orange copper color, thin almost no white head, aroma is buttery caramel aka diacetyl, flavor is buttery caramel and a bitter backbone, no real substantial hop flavor, there are some faint hints at west coast citrus rind hops in the background, I probably got an old bottle and this is more of what I imagine a British twist on the IIPA might taste like, that’s what they’re into on the East Coast right? Probably won;t buy it again but it’s not bad stuff at all if diacetyl doesn’t ruin a beer for you.

Cloudy orange and somewhat brown looking beer with quite minimal head. Scent has roasted malts, some resin or dried plums and piney bitterness. Interesting nose feel. Taste is dark, very dark DIPA. Some dried plums and whole pineforest bringing bitterness. I wonder where are all the citrus flavors? Somewhat sweet DIPA, strange but good.

I really like this one -- an unusual (D)IPA. Cloudy copper pour with grapefruit aroma. Initial tastes are sweet malt. Quite robust body, and great malt flavor topped with hop grapefruit notes. Bitterness is barely present, dampened into submission perhaps by the overwhelming malt body perhaps. Just really nice, smooth, and drinkable -- yet 9.25%! Sweet and balanced -- I like it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

WLG423 (199) - Connecticut, USA - APR 30, 2013
Amber red body with a generous tan head. Aromas of earth, citrus and toast with a hearty malty body. A bit of dark fruit character and a slightly syrup like body with a nice amount of hop bitterness to balance it out. The alcohol content is well disguised without a notable solvent character. Overall, an enjoyable Shipyard brew.

Pours a clear copper from the bottle with thick cap of lazy tan head. Aroma of funky west coast hops and a caramel pale malt back. Taste follows with a nice boozy burn on the way down. Solid, good job on this series so far shipyard.

RedCloud (122) - Rhode Island, USA - APR 3, 2013
Pours a clear, burnt mandarin orange, with a finger-and-a-half of lacy, ivory-yellow head. Smell is of rich malts and overly-ripe orange, with slight notes of Thai basil, fig, and spice. Taste starts with lightly sweet grapefruit-citrus, before transitioning into orange candy, bitter lime-rind, and caramel. Finish is bittersweet, with lightly lingering hop acids. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium, with little carbonation.

Bottle. Dark amber, cloudy color. Average head. VERY malty for an IPA. Smooth for such a malty flavor. Malty aroma.

had it during a camping trip. It was 6 months old so not as fresh but I figured it had enough alcohol that it was be fine. It was a good beer. Had the grapefruit hop taste/aroma going on which is nice since it had some body to go with it.
