Bottle from Fuddrucker’s: Poured a deep golden orange hue topped with a frothy topping of foam head which eventually broke down leaving the liquid completely naked. Aroma is typical spices found in pumpkin pie and actually smells pleasant. The flavor delivers the same spices of nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin puree but also brings a sweet malt bill. Nothing special but I was surprised to see this still available despite it being Spring time and near the month of May.

Orange-amber with a white head. Aroma is full of grain with a hint of cinnamon and pumpkin. The flavor is fairly bland. I get some cinnamon and nutmeg notes but they are hidden behind some wheat and grain. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. Pours murky orange without head. The aroma is tons of clove, a little cinnamon, limited pumpkin. The taste is somewhat clove driven, slight pumpkin body, light cinnamon finish. OK

Poured per the instructions on the label. Murky amber color with ivory sheen. Nice pumpkin meat, nutmeg, clove, coriander aromas. decent pie spice, allspice, clove coriander flavors with some pumpkin meat--not bad.

February 28th, 2012 - Of all the pumpkin beers that sprout up around Fall, the easiest to ignore are those that come spliced with some other non-seasonal beer. By this I mean any beer that’s had an injection of pumpkin flavor and re-marketed for pumpkin frenzied flavor fiends, myself included. Why am I writing about Shocktop’s Pumpkin, then? True enough - this is the worst kind of seasonal offense, but it DID come in a variety box, and I’ll try any bottle of beer once, or even three times, as the circumstances might demand. Sadly, Shocktop Pumpkin satisfied my very deep, dark, and supine expectations. It’s flat on the palate, the pumpkin taste itself tastes like it was developed in a lab (rather than a field), there’s some poorly balanced herbal notes, and it is neither sweet nor spicy. Basically, this tastes like Shocktop Pumpkin’s designers malted a round lab-grown pumpkin through a square whole and jumped on the seasonal bandwagon.

12oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Lager glass at 36°. Color is a cloudy golden amber with mellow carbonation and thin white head. Aroma is caramel, yeast and spice. It has a lighter medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor starts with wheat, a note of banana, then vanilla, nutmeg and clove. In the after taste the clove stands out a bit more with a mild bitterness giving it a slightly dry feel. Overall this is a very good pumpkin, light yet complex flavors and very easy drinking. I’m impressed was not excepting this to be this good.

Pours a cloudy reddish/orange color with a slight head that dissolves quickly. Just as the beer reads, pumpkin and wheat scents are most noticeable as well as those pumpkin pie spices. Surprisingly great taste for a A.B. product. The uses of wheat and pumpkin work great together as the spices heighten the taste. The texture is fine but a tad to thin for me resulting in making this beer a very easy drinker. The finish is a little awkward but I imagine that is due to the wheat. A little more texture and volume would greatly help this beer. A better than average pumpkin beer and a surprise hit from A.B.

Pours hazy golden with a fully receding white head. Notes of citrus, orange peel, nutmeg, pumpkin. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear dark orange with a fizzy one finger head. Just ok head retention but absolutely no lacing to speak of. Aroma of pumpkin pie spice along with overripe fruit. Lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. It is not especially strong, however. Flavor is full of nutmeg and cinnamon and has an almost artificial quality about it that I am not a fan of. A decent amount of sweetness pervades with just the slightest hint of bitterness. Carbonation is way high and a little bit distracting. Overall, this beer has an artificial feel surrounding it from the aroma, to the flavor, to the mouthfeel. One thing going for it is that it is quite refreshing when ice cold but that is about the only positive thing I can say. Not a beer I plan on having again.

bottle. decent smell. taste leaves a lot to be desired but not awful. some slight pumpkin taste and a bit of spice. Wouldn’t buy myself but would drink again.
