egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 17, 2009 Dark brown / black with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, oats, and caramelized malts. Taste of dark chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, roast, oats, and light smoke. hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2009 12oz bottle shared courtesy of Josh.
***Gusher Alert*** Took me by surprised and gushed all over my bar and notebook.
Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Aromas of burnt sugar, roast, and chocolate. Tastes of roastiness, chocolate, and some maple syrup. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 4, 2009 On tap at the Virginia Beer Festival at Capital Ale House - Midlothian on 07/03/2009 as Maple Stout. Dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Roasty and chocolate aroma. Roast, chocolate and a bit of molassas flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 5, 2009 12 oz, says 6.3% abv. Nearly opaque with a lasting half-inch of creamy foam. Coffee, chocolate and caramel aromas. Front flavor of coffee and light char gives way to some caramel and lightly sour cherry and cream. Finish is charred coffee, chalk and lactic acidity. Medium-heavy body is a little fizzy and watery, but drinkable. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jul 5, 2009 On draught at the Floyd Fandango ’09. An almost opaque black pour, with a small tan ring head, leaving no real lace. Rich chocolates mix with whiskey and molasses in the bouquet. On the tongue, some dark esters are noted, along with roasted coffee, dark chocolates and a slightly toasted finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and highly drinkable. Best quaff of the Shooting Creek offerings at the festival, and a nice stout. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jul 4, 2009 Sampled at the Virginia Beer Festival, billed as a maple stout, which matches the description here. Black with brown edges. Sweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Light body. Chocolate flavors. Lingering coffee and espresso finish is quite nice. The lightness of body, quite possibly from having fermented out all the maple, detracts a bit. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 3, 2009 Sampled on draft at the 2nd annual Virginia Beer Festival at Capital Ale House Midlothian. 1900th rating... WOOHOO!!! Pours a very dark brown color appearing black in the glass. Thin head with good head retention and lacing. Aroma is nutty roasted malts with nice maple notes... almost like a bourbon barrel aged beer. Taste is roasted malts... slightly acrid... with maple and nutty notes. Medium bodied.
