Commercial Description:
Our take on the classic German dunkelweiss. Wildflower honey harvested at the brewery and throughout Floyd County gives this brew a distinct terrene. Five different malts and a moderate hop profile complete the picture.

Weak mushroomy barley nose, slightly vinous. Shimmering amber, thin white head. Malty wheat and white zinfandel upfront with dandelion at midpalate. Tart and crisp finish. Unlike any wheat beer I’ve ever had. Completely and utterly misses the mark for the style, but it’s a decent tasting beer. I’m not sure, but the bottle may have even been mislabeled. Then again, this is my first sample from the brewer. I’ll try another and re-rate if necessary.

On draught at the Floyd Fandango ’09. Pours golden, mostly translucent, with no retentive head nor lace. Wheat and silage grains dominate the nose (maybe a hint of clove). Flavors are introduced by citrus upfront, more lemon/orange acidic than plantain/banana. Sour grains, much like the silage in the bouquet, show up mid-palate. A light hop just nips the tail end of the finish. The mouthfeel is not as I expected... almost flat soda-esque, not even soft or textured. This seems to be a highly citrusy, distinguishably American wheat. I honestly pick up nothing "dunkel" about this brew, so hopefully the dunkelweizen classification may change later.
