3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy pale golden with a fair eggshell head that settles to a ring and leaves no lace. Zesty, spicy nose of yeast, potpourri, lemony citrus, herbs, perhaps some pear (yes, some pear), lots of pepper, almost some wood to it. Hardly sweet, slightly tart, fairly bitter. Light to medium body, somewhat oily, a little juicy, crisp, with a lengthy spicy fruity finish. A little weird (surprise), but pretty tasty. If it was only a tad drier...

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Delicious brew, but much too hoppy for a saison. Almost an IPA. Pear was lost. Slightly cloudy with medium body.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled 11/21/13 and poured 12/4/13 -- 13 days later. Poured this into a shaker pint.
Appearance: I poured the whole bottle in, including the stuff at the bottom. The beer is a golden, lemon sort of yellow color with a finger or two of an egg white head. The lacing is quite patchy, but nice. I really like the swirly haze the beer offers from the way I poured it -- works well with the whole "Captain Fantasy" name. The label art isnít quite as great as some of Shortís others, but I definitely like the colors, and itís certainly eye catching.
Smell: Candied pears (thatís a thing, right?), with a lot of lemon. A bit of that saison funk. Maybe some tropical fruit.
Taste: Much like the smell, but with the addition of hops and malt (this IS a beer, right?). The lemon/pear flavor is still on the forefront though. The hops and malts seem to come together for me in the finish. The hops add a nice bittering, almost leafy sort of flavor to the beer, and the malts leave a bready sort of aftertaste.
Feel: Iím relieved this beer has a decent body to it, because if this were any thinner, Iíd enjoy it a decent bit less. The bodyís fairly light (hey, itís a saison), but it has enough that it doesnít drink like lemon pledge cereal water.
I havenít had many saisons, but I really quite enjoy this beer. The smell is very inviting with its fruitiness, and the beer has a solid bitterness and dry finish to keep you wanting another sip. Itís not exactly a "knock your socks off" kind of beer, but itís a tasty one. Like a reviewer below said, Iím not sure Iíd get a six pack of this (or if I did, itíd sit for up to two weeks probably), but itís something Iíd very gladly have again. The freshness is fantastic, and this would be a great brew to enjoy to signal the start of spring and/or summer.

3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
An aroma of peaches, kolsch-ish hop funk, some pear and hints of cardamom. Very bubbly appearance, bright hazy yellow. Fruity flavor that is dwarfed to a certain degree by hopping, which was the Brewers intent. Very bubbly mouth feel, as a saison should be. Overall, a very nice beer. This would go well with a chicken dish.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Cider-like mouthfeel and color; dark yellow. Bubbly. No head. Hoppiness dwarfs the pear/funk qualities a bit, but still good. Nose is fantastic right off the bat: notes of pear and peach.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pale cloudy beige/orange pour with whispy white suds on top. Nose has apple, pear, a little sour. Soft carbonation, champagne like mouthfeel, crisp dry finish. Lot of pear flavor, lemongrass, earthy pine hops too that are pert. Very very good, crisp saison. This and the other Half Acre collaboration are some of the best new beers I have tried, from Shortís or otherwise, truly innovative.

Pear is the major flavor in this one. Very fruity. I liked this one a lot. Very drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour from a 12oz bottle. Cloudy bright yellow brew with thin-ish head. Very brilliant in the light. Aroma of green fruit, pear, yeast and grass. Taste is mild sweetness at the very start of the swallow, fresh green fruit / pear immediately follows, then a deep bitter / yeasty surge piles on. Lingering grass and yeast and crisp fruit at the finish. Very crisp clean and refreshing.
