Freedom of ’78 is a medium bodied IPA with a wonderful, bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss, and attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to an expected IPA bitterness that turns dry during prolonged tastings

Reviewed from notes. Pours a clear golden color with a good white head and some nice rings of lacing on the way down. The nose powers through with a strong scent of guava along with some tropical fruits. A bit of mango and general fruity sweetness. Very interesting. The flavor doesn’t work quite as well, as the guava comes out of balance with the hops, though there’s still some citrus and mango in the background. The guava adds a bit of acidity, which is actually quite pleasing. Dry and bitter in the feel. A very solid effort. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 05-31-2011

Bottle thanks to Northernbrews. Shared with Jcwattsrugger. Pours amber brown. Off white head. Nose of rye, guava nectar, honey, pineapple and pine needle. Nice! Taste is the same with grapefruit rind.

(12oz bottle courtesy of rayl101!). Pours a hazy apricot color with a massive off-white head. This thing was almost a gusher. Nice, active carbonation. Aroma has a nice, bright citrusy guava nose with some mango and a little bit of wood. Taste is very bitter that is like a citrus peel. It’s also peppery and somewhat herbal. There isn’t a ton of sweetness from the malt, or its been over powered by the bitterness. Medium bodied with oily texture and dry, bitter finish. The herbal notes were a bit distracting, but otherwise a pretty good beer.

Relatively clear dark yellow. Aroma and flavor both have a ton of guava sweetness, some citrus and a light malt backbone. A touch of bitterness so its not over sweet, really like that guava flavor.

Tap sample. Poured clear dark amber color with an average creamy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy hop and tropical fruit aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This a very good brew.

12oz bottle drank in my Orval glas...A clear gold, decent carbonation...Sweet aroma of pineapple, mango, a touch of the guava, less than the Half acre...Taste starts off like fruit juice, acidic, a bite, and finally a little hops. The more you drink the hops come through. Not the best ipa but decent and worth a try.

On tap at Sunset for their Shorts event prior to EBF. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Guava and big citrus on the nose. Sweet, pine and fruit, lots and lots of tasty guava. Big bitter hops. Super bitter, but it balances nicely with the abundance of guava.

12oz bottle - thanks to jjfoodie. Orange copper colored brew, good amount of white head. Citrus hop and guava aromas - LOTS of guava. More guava with some herbal flavors as well. Very interesting - glad I got a chance to try this.
