Freedom of ’78 is a medium bodied IPA with a wonderful, bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss, and attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to an expected IPA bitterness that turns dry during prolonged tastings

Pours a clear amber color with a thin white head. Aromas of guava with flavors of guava and pine with a slightly bitter finish. This reminds me of the air I smell up in the mountains.

Bottle. Caramel color with a slight haze and grayish/beige head. Almost all guava and strawberry aromas. Tart guava that finishes with some piney hops. Finishes bitter.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours amber with a lacy, off-white head. Atom of tropical fruit, floral and citrus hops, and some pale and caramel malts. Flavor the same with a nice blend of fruits and hops. Average texture. A really interesting IPA.

Slightly hazy bright orange pour. Some white head, some white lacing as well. Big guava nose, which is really cool. A big guava flavor, followed by citrus hops and a strong bitterness in the finish.

Bottle thanks to BlowOffTube. I never heard of this beer but I was intrigued once I saw it. The aroma smells very fruity and sour but not funky sour, just like a tropical fruit, guava I would presume. Not a ton of head. The pour is a bright, clear red-orange. There is an interesting taste to this one. I can’t exactly put my finger on it. It isn’t overly sweet but there is also a bitter quality to it. This particular bottle really lacks carbonation.

Rich juicy hops aroma, mostly citrusy pineapple and orange. .bright and hoppy, mostly clear with a light spritz and thin white head. pale malt background and a sharp tangy hops bite. hops juice through and through - a very very nice brew. medium finish with a bit of alcohol buzz. excellent, shame it’s so much more expensive ($14.99 a sixer) than comparable IPAs around here.

i absolutely love this beer. such an interested treat from shorts, they rarely disappoint. the aroma is so unique, pine, exotic fruit, and maybe even a little mary jane. golden, amber, honey look to it with minimal head but some lacing sticks around. taste is identical to the smell. nice bitterness and kinda dry. shorts is always doing some things that are a little different and we michiganders appreciate them. this beer is a unique change up from the cookie cutter IPAs and its a pleasure to drink.

Bottle, pours a clear amber with white head. The aroma is tropical fruit, hops, black peppercorn, a great smelling beer. Taste is more tropical fruit, never tried/smelled guava so I’ll call it melon and mango. Some light spice as well. Interesting brew, good stuff.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Clear tawny amber brew with small head, looks like a fine wine in the glass. Aroma of papaya and tropical fruit. Taste is modestly sweet on the inward draw with tart kiwi and citrus coming forward, then papaya and moderately strong citrus hops emerge. An earthy spiciness steps up towards the finish - almost like a mild cumin - and grounds it. Ends with a blast of grapefruit. Wow! Lighter body, clean and refreshing, very drinkable, very good. Awesome.
