COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Freedom of ’78 is a medium bodied IPA with a wonderful, bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss, and attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to an expected IPA bitterness that turns dry during prolonged tastings

Poured from bottle to pint glass. Very hoppy aroma. Hazy golden copper pour. Floral hop flavor with pairings of what must be guava. Having never had it personally, I’d describe it as tropical citrus fruits. This beer is so so good. Very ideal IPA, nice change of pace from the norm. Left a fair amount of lacing on the glass as I drank. Delicious hoppy finish. Outstanding beer. Anyone IPA lover that does not like fruit in their beer should absolutely pick this up, you won’t be disappointed.

copper colored, average head. the idea of a guava IPA sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, but this turned out fabulous. wonderfully hoppy with the guava sweetness. one of the most flavorful beers i have had in a long time.

Picked this up while in Kalamazoo. Pours orange and hazy with a very small frothy head. Aroma is tropical fruits but not like simcoe, citrusy hops, citrus zest and tingling spices and maybe some green peppercorns. Taste is dry through and through with nice fruit and citrus hop flavors. bitterness is mild. Very nice and balanced. Great!

pleasant aroma, you can smell hints of the guava and a nic floral note. The beer pours a ever so slightly hazy light orange/bronze color with 1 finger of white head. I would have thought from the smell that the guava would be more prominent but while it is definatly there I am finding more citrusy grapfruit, orange and pineapple flavors from the hops I would assume since it does have a substantial bitterness but is balanced nicely with a malty sweetness and the guava. This beer has substantial carbonation and medium body. Overall I think this is fantastic stuff, I must say I am NOT a fruit in my beer kind of guy and I was very skeptical of this beer even at the beer store I thought about putting it back on the shelf but I am glad I diddnt. The guava really works wel in this type of beer and I will have to go back and pick up some more since like many Shorts beer this is of limited production. Pick this one up if you see it!

From the bottle. poured a nice hazy amber orange, with a nice big khaki head that left some nice lacing. Aroma sweet citrus pine, sweet grapefruit tropical fruits, flavor the same. I like shorts beer but this one made me a bigger fan. This was a WOW beer for me

Bottle. Gold with a fluffy white head. Nose is citrus, guava and mixed tropical fruit. Flavor follows. Strong bitterness plays nicely with tart guava, sweet malts and earthy hops. Medium bodied, perfect carbonation. This was excellent!

bottle courtesy of flandersned, thanks for this chance to try this one! pours a crisp yellow with a medium white head that disappears fast but comes back with just a tiny swirl. the aroma is nice, some bright and bitter hops, just slightly soapy and astringent, and the guava adds a veny nice level of complexity to the aroma, very sweet and candy like, didn’t think it would show up this strongly on the nose, but it works well. the taste is to match. i was expecting crap from this one, but its actually very well done. its very unique, and changes a lot throughout the palate. sweet and candy like up front, then a good bitter kick from the hops in the middle and back, and fading into a sweet and balanced malty aftertaste. this one is interesting, a lil on the sweet side, but not totally overdone. the guava is done very nicely and the beer has a balanced profile of hops, guava and malt.

Draft at GABF. A knockout from Shorts. Pours a deep bronze with a nice fluffy head. Nose is intensely guava forward with a nice citrusy hop backing. Crisp and bright for sure. on tasting, the guava is strong but works really well with the hops. Light bready note and a dry finish. Fantastic stuff.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 3/30/2012. Pours slightly cloudy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big orange, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, floral, herbal, citrus peel, light pine, earth, and slight peppery spiciness. Very nice and well balanced aromas, with good strength and complexity. Taste of big grapefruit, tart/bitter citrus rind, bread, herbal, pine, orange zest, pineapple, and earthy spiciness. Good amount of earthy and tart citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, herbal, pine, mango, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a while. Great balance of flavors with the guava character and hop bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel. Very easy and smooth to drink at 7%. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Overall this is a great and very interesting IPA collaboration from Shorts and Half Acre. Great balance of flavors; and very smooth and enjoyable.
