COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Low Gluten American India Pale Lager
Alien Einstein is a light bodied India Pale Lager with a dull golden color and an inviting aroma of tangy grapefruit juice. A bright burst of fruity and earthy hop flavors immediately hits the palate. This beer exemplifies the well-rounded versatility of the American Mosaic hops used exclusively in this beer.

12oz Bottle. Really nice gentle, balanced fresh citrus aroma. New American hops at a sustainable rate and clean. Flavors follow this Mosaic bent with fresh lemon, orange, and pineapple flavors over a plain green bitterness thatís balancing. The malt body is a bit mushy and lightly fruity, itís fine and pale and generally working with the hop flavors. Iíd take a bit more tooth, but I think for what itís trying to be it works well. I like the use of Mosaic here, juicy, fresh and flavorful.

Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, nectar, vanilla, wood and some mild grassyness as well. Flavour is quite nectary, wooden with mild vanilla and honeyu. Semidry palate. Rather nice.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2014 Bottle: Very, very pale, straw body with a cloudiness throughout; a moderately soapy white head doesnít last for very long. Aroma is kind of strange; somewhat funky, corny, grainy... hard to describe, to say the least. Light vegetal notes, backed up (thankfully) by a stronger floral presence. Earthy hop back-end. This beer almost smells "sweaty", but not exactly in a brettanomyces type of way. The taste is more abrasively hop forward; a nice bite up front with notes of pine & good hop oil pungency. More spicy & earth laden hop notes in the back-end with nary a malt bill to be found, save for a very tame, grainy undercurrent. Faint hints of bitter citrus pith linger in the aftertaste in this bitter beast. The flavor is far superior to the nebulous aroma; hop heads will love the strong perceivable bitterness paired with the nearly nonexistent malt bill. Like a very bitter American Pale Ale on the palate. Not bad, I guess, for being nearly gluten free.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate grapefruit, earthy hops, and some light peppery/spice notes. It pours a transparent gold with a one finger white head that leaves some soapy rings on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus. The finish has moderate-heavy grapefruit, citrus hops, light pine, and just a hint of lemon peel. Itís light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, it has the flavor profile of a really solid IPA.

12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. Poured into my DFH IPA glass. Mildly hazy golden ornage color. Good thin off-white head. Leaves nice, thicker lace. Medium body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Good bigger piney hop aroma, and some nice tropical fruitiness, some grapefruit. Bigger bitter taste, light on the sweet. Pretty interesting stuff. A solid IPL. Iím not sure if I notice the low gluten factor at all, but it works pretty well here. Not much to the malt profile, I guess, but it doesnít bother me here. Just a light bit of breadiness. The hops shine nicely. Itís bitter, but not overly bitter. Good big flavor for the 5.5%.

Pours a bright gold. Nice head retention, nice carbonation, very clear and clean looking in the glass. Aromas are of soft lagered yeast, light floral and citrus along with some sweet breads. Taste is much fuller than I expected from the nose. Lots of hops upfront, moderately bitter with hints of grapefruit/lemon along with an earthy character of pine/resin. Nicely balances into a light bodied malt sweetness. Really tasty beer. If the bottle didnít say "gluten free", I never would have guessed it.

I like the IPL style, but this one didnít well integrate the hop flavour. Not so drinkable, but thatís because an alien brewed it.

Bottle from Sean - thanks! Really nice hazy, glowing golden pour with some white foam. Dry, bitter hops with rough grain and minimal sweetness in the aroma. Taste is moderate bitterness with semi-rough grain. No fruity hops for me. Heavier mouthfeel than the 5.5% suggests. Nice beer but has that semi-dirty/semi-clean malt profile Iíve seen in many Shortís beers.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 4/3/2014. Pours slightly hazy bright gold color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, grass, pine, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, mango, peach, lemon zest, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and a some slight cloying bitterness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice India pale lager style. All around good complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
