COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pub Brew. Alter Spalter is true to the old world German style ale with a light brown color and pleasant nose. The malt character is low with soft, caramel notes and a unique banana-like sweetness. The beer is well balanced with a crisp clean nature and a lack of lingering malty flavors.

Sampled from a bottle, this ale had a hazy light brown pour with a bit of red and burnt orange colors that gave the beer a look of unfiltered apple cider, the pour gave a finger or less of faint off-white cover that receded to a ring and film of bubbles, this beer left nice spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, the nose had aromas of light malt notes that resembled amber beer but a touch lighter, toasted malt notes, a little citrus and pine hops, some bread and caramel, a little earth and malt sweetness, the flavors were light toasted malt and bread, caramel and light nut with a bigger hops than on the nose, the finish had a hop bitterness with some malt following, the mouth feel was light and creamy, and had average carbonation, a nice drink.

Bottle shared by RussianDragon. Thanks man. Black body with a thin, tan head. Chocolate, cocoa powder, lactose. A tad chalky with a fairly dry finish. Decent but not great.

Smooth, creamy, and fruity alt beer. Real nice change of pace from the usual stuff. Yummy!

Nice looking hazy reddish amber. Mellow sour grains in the aroma. Taste of toasted malt and grain with some light fruit.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/9/2014. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big toasted bread, honey, light caramel, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of toasted biscuit, honey, light caramel, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of toasted biscuit, honey, light caramel, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Dusseldorf style altbier. All around good balance and robustness of bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle, big thanks to umich03jm! Bottled 10/09/14. Totally hazy orange amber color. Finger of khakio head, with good retention, leaves nice lace. Medium body, with a full creamy feel. Lighter crisp carbonation. Smooth and easy-drinking. Nice toasty malt, and earthy hop. Seeing some of the banana, light spiciness. Really nice flavor. Moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter. Superbly easy-drinking, tasty stuff. Perfectly balanced. Easily chuggable. Delicious stuff.

Bottle: Translucent, yet quite cloudy burnt orange & amber color with a light-khaki head that takes its time settling to a bubbly film & collar. Aroma has notes of toffee candy, sweet bubblegum, moderately fruity yeast esters, barley sugar, caramel, & some light honey. Flavor is rather different... Malty, for sure, but note overtly caramel or toffee forward. Maybe some light toffee, but it least more towards a toasted, yet semi-stale breadiness. Clumpy lager yeast, straw, & a mild herbal touch from the hops. Slightly earthy but never really bitter. A touch of burnt toast in the finish. Medium mouth feel, slick. Decent but not overly memorable.
