4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beautiful crimson/ruby red pour with an eggshell ring that circles the glass and a cloudy film that slides over the body. Really interesting and extremely delicious. Didn’t know what to expect but this is what I discovered...aroma is aggressive and shows heavy bourbon, vanilla, and oak accompanied by caramel malt, brown sugar, and honey. Flavor possesses many woody notes: oak, cedar, and of course, pine. Tons of sweetness with toffee, molasses, and candied fruit present but there is a bit of a hop kick in the finish. A bit syrupy but absolutely amazing!!!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle purchased at Shorts and consumed in Feb. 2012. Pours a clear deep amber color with a small bubbly ring. The aroma has some citrus and resiny hops remaining, bourbon, caramel and oxidation. The flavor has a sweet caramel malt base, herbal and citrus hops, bourbon and wood. Still a touch hot after all this time.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, and faint fruit. It pours a transparent reddish-orange with a small beige head. The flavor starts with moderate caramel and toffee. The finish has brown sugar with some aged citrus hops. It’s medium-heavy bodied with mild carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
4th July 2010
Clear red - brown beer. Creamy tan head. Obvious bourbon nose. Smooth, low carbonation palate. Smooth bourbon - strong though! Phew! A little coconut sweetness. Palate turns creamy in the mid. Finishes with aniseed alcohol and good grapefruit hop bitterness. Warming afterglow. A full on bourbon beer - boozy and heady.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average creamy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted caramel malt, citrus, fruit, complex wood and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy bittersweet toasted malt flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Super full bodied with an apparent alcohol burn. Flavors of burnt sugar and caramel malts mixed with fudge and mild chocolate and mocha notes. Delicious and a wonderful complexity!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Reddish-brown body. Clear. Minimal tan head. Malty aroma of caramel, toasted grain, vanilla, barnyard, leather, alcohol and honey. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture turning slightly sticky in the finish, fading lively carbonation. The finish is stongly alcoholic. The hops in this anniversary ale seem to have faded substantially. Tastes more like an aged English style barley wine than anything with 240 ibus. But then, this was brewed in 2005. What’s left is a comfortable and warming sipping beer, though the ethanol finish was a little too hot.
