3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at MBGSF 2010. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma is heavy on citrus and pine, seemingly from both hops and herbs. Flavor is again heavily citrusy, combining lemon zest and grapefruit, orange, pine, perhaps juniper berry? Bittersweet.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2010 the first time i rated this i couldn’t really remember it due to being too drunk when i had it. i revisited it tonight, and am lowering my rating very slightly... nice orange droplets at the very end of the pour, tons of floaties. big time citrus flavor going on. unique, as most short’s brews tend to be. worth a try, not there are better barley or wheat wines out there.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from pepsican. Thanks as always. Poured a clear garnet-orange color. The head was soapy and light tan with decent retention. Very hoppy aroma, ala orange and grapefruit. I suppose the blood orange also played a hand in that. There was also some alcohol reminiscent of a fruit liqueur. Whiffs of pepper and fat malty wheat wine emerged. Medium to full bodied and sweet in a fruit juice kind of way. Mild bitterness at the end. Distinct blood orange and fresh green citrusy hop flavors predominated, but there were also caramel and spice notes. Lots of action.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz pour from bottle. Dark orange/brown almost red body with minimal head. Lots going on in the nose: orange, candy, alcohol, spicy, caramel, a little grassy...... Flavor equally complex with more orange, floral hops, sweet malt, spicy pepper.... Mouthfeel is a little shallow in my opinion. Initially sweet malt and orange, then finishing with slight pepper bite and perfectly balanced bitterness. Overall an outstanding and terrifically complex wheat wine.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle from my Secret Santa - thanks, deyholla! Darker pour than I’d expected given the wheatwine designation I suppose, but it certainly seemed appropriate given the ingredients. Huge and complex aroma, with blood orange coming across quite strongly along with some nice spice. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side, and some additional carbonation would have benefited this potent beer. But the flavors are really terrifice, with the dry bitters of the zest, a faintly nutty flavor, and intense pepper making this one another quirky but successful Shorts experiment.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is a dark red (perhaps ruby red) color with a nice off-white head.
S: Tons and tons of sweet and mildly sour blood oranges in the nose. A really soft but noticeable peppery aroma as well. Quite interesting but strangely inviting.
T: The oranges are just as strong as in the nose. In addition to the oranges, there is a bit of a grapefruit note and the pepper is much more subdued. A nice sweet caramel note in the background as well.
M: Quite full bodied and a really nice amount of carbonation, which you don’t always get out of a growler.
D: Another cool beer from Shorts. I liked the addition of the fruit in this one and found it to be a bit sweet and at nearly 12% ABV, this is one that you need to drink with caution.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12oz bottle courtesy of DuffManSW, thanks Sean (sorry for drinking it without you, Kevin forced it on me). Rating #39. Dark amber pour with a nice little touch of orange and a small white head. Aroma was pretty nice, a bit of citrus and a faint spiciness that went together pretty well. The taste on the other hand was a horrible mess, so many different things going on with the pepper and the oranges, it was strange acidic cluster that wasn’t very pleasant at all, hopefully it was a bad bottle since other ratings were so high, or me and the other four guys just didn’t like it. 4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Courtesy of jdubFL, wow! thanks Justin! Growler poured out clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is IIPA like with fresh rich citrus, pine and grassiness and then a mild malt like sweetness. The taste is yummy with fresh rich citrus flavors, some pine hop bitterness, spicy rye notes, some drying malt roastiness and a thin layer of sweet maltiness. These notes all head off into the finish with the addition of a pleasing black tea like sensation that brings the whole thing together. This beers is fresh, rich citrus, robust, pummeling hops and yet manages to create a semblance of balance too. Wow! I need a keg or two of this.

2009 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!! - Pours clear amber with a small, sandy head...aroma is grainy and fruity, orange pith and slightly herbal from the pepper?...flavour is tart orange, tart grain, lemony wheat...more tart than I expected and not particularly spicy, tons of orange pith bitterness, and absolutely no noticable alcohol for the strength...glad I got to try this one!!
