Wow. Just wow. You go Short’s! Thanks to jdubfl for sharing this one. Pours hazy brown-red with an off-white head. Nose is tart citrus, hops, grapefruit and orange flesh, limes, all manner of citrus with some pepper and bitterness. Flavor is an explosion of citrus: grapefruit, orange, tart, peel, citrus flesh, and hops combine to make this the most barley wine wheatwine I have ever had. This beer was pretty style-bendingly cool, and I did not detect hardly a hint of almost 12% ABV. Enjoyable, for sure, and definitely a summer beer.

Crushed at BSAF 10. Very sweet, citrus bite from the oranges, with the pepper coming through in the finish. Cool beer, but too sweet for me.

pours amber, tan head, told it was a wheat wine, not sure about the barley wine.
aroma, tart and fruity, some grains? and yeasty.
flavors, malty, plenty of pinety hops, drinks like a soapy boozy DIPA with lots of hop flavors. Hints of honey like sweetness, fizzy citrus/tangy finish.

Bottle from Shorts. Poured clear ruby color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy hop, spice and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout complex beer.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2011 Bottle. Pours a brownish burgundy with a very small light wooden brown head. Aroma has a combination of caramel and blood orange with a slight undertone of pepper. Flavor begins sweet with caramel but the finish brings a blood orange note that helps balance out the flavor nicely. There was a hint of spice and some coriander in the finish

Orange pour. At the brewery. Huge hop aroma with big spice, spruce and huge orange peel. Flavor is also massively hoppy with added orange, coriander, pine. Tons of spruce. Interesting.

Pours dark ruddy brow with a layer of a cream colored head. Nice citrus nose with a touch of feet, but oddly not in a bad way. Flavor is same with a touch of vinous fruit. Medium full mouthfeel.

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Fest poured a clear dark reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of wheat, orange and a hint of pepper. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of orange, wheat and white pepper with a crisp dry lingering fruity finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Boulder Strong Fest at Avery. Clear dark red with medium white head. Aroma is outstanding - big earthy hops, tons of coriander and other unidentifiable spices, Christmas smells, molasses. Taste is unique and somewhat strange - huge spices with big hop backbone, bitter finish. Notes of soap in taste and marinara sauce in aroma.

GABF 09. Pours a bright amber body and an oily diminishing head. Aroma is zesty spiced orange peel, juicy and oily, with toasted malts dough, wheat and honey sweetness- phenolic and a bit off- fusels and high esters. Fruity flavor, orange juice, zest, pine, sweet, sugary, phenolic messy high alcohol and harsh solvent finish- a let down.
