3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013 edition, on tap at the brewpub. Pours a brownish amber with a white ring. Aroma of blood oranges, malt, wheat, and a hint of peppercorn. Taste is a huge batter between blood oranges and pepper, which ends with peppercorn bitterness. Lingering peppery orange. Very tasty.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Mahogany pour with ruby highlights and a small, short-lived, off-white head. The aroma is rich, deep and buttery with notes of caramel, toffee, and almonds wrapped in a big, intense orange orange aroma. The aroma also shows some subtle notes of the peppercorns and dark fruit. The flavor is loaded with dark fruit notes and lots of blood orange layered over buttery toffee, pecan, and almond notes. There’s also some hints of brandy, zesty continental hops, fresh peppercorns, and strong fusel alcohol at the end. The body is full and sticky with low carbonation and a strong alcohol warming.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, pours almost like a soda with vibrant red/brown/orange color and lots of carbonation right off the bat, it quickly dissipates. Lots of wheat and oranges on the nose and a hint of hops. Flavor is something I’ve never tasted before, serious amount of the orange sweetness and a slight bitter bite along with a tiny bit of pepper in there. At room temp I only get a slight alcohol burn. Something dances around on the tongue that is difficult to pin down, maybe the acidity along with the alcohol. In any case an extraordinarily unique beer and enjoyable. Might try again with some age on it.

Deep red, almost brown clear pour that produced lots of bubbles on te inside of the shaker it was poured into. Half inch orange cream head. Hoppy garlic pepper aroma. Sweet rich flavor. Hoppy, lots of distinctly orange flavor. Alcohol content is evident on the finish as are the peppercorns.

Big thanks to Jim for the opportunity to try this!
A- Body is a crystal clear orange/red hue. Pours with <1 finger head that eventually fades completely-very faint traces of lacing are left behind in the glass.
S- Nose is pretty faint- blood orange is the dominant factor there is also just a hint of peppercorn and other tropical fruits. Very faint alcohol as well.
T- Taste is much more like a witbier- blood orange, corriander, peppercorn, big wheat backbone. Finish has a moderate alcohol sting-but the initial flavors remain consistent.
M- Medium carbonation and a medium weight body.
D- This is another very interesting, unique brew by shorts brewing co. The alcohol heat really comes through toward the end of this brew. Still enjoyable and unique.

Okay, gotta break my rating hiatus for this one. After trying a few of the Short’s wacky beers (Smores, Key Lime, etc.), this one does it for me. While the Key Lime was tasty, and the Smores wasn’t anything special, this has excellent use of the blood orange that really work well with some great citrus hops notes. Very fresh and fruity all the way through, with the blood orange and related citrus notes giving the most push from the nose through the flavor. Very unique, very tasty. 12oz. bottle, purchased in Kalamazoo several weeks ago.

Nice dark orange color with little head. Nose of malt and orange peels. Taste of sweet malt but fairly overbearing orange peel bitterness. Not bad which is good considering I have had one bad shorts beer after another.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper orange/red with a tiny ring of white head. Aroma of floral, hay, herbs, pepper, coriander, citrus. Flavour of wheat, lots of cracked pepper (nicely blended in), coriander seed, bitter citrus flavours. Not the beer I expected. An interested combination of flavours which surprisingly appear to compliment one another. Medium bodied, but quite harsh too from the orange peel. Not sure I would enjoy drinking a large amount of this beer. Interesting nonetheless.
