2013 bottle. Wouldn’t really call it a wheat wine but a fruit beer. Smell is citrus juice and barley. Flavor is blood orange, malt, an pepper. It is good but could have done without the spice.

Courtesy of jdubFL, wow! thanks Justin! Growler poured out clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is IIPA like with fresh rich citrus, pine and grassiness and then a mild malt like sweetness. The taste is yummy with fresh rich citrus flavors, some pine hop bitterness, spicy rye notes, some drying malt roastiness and a thin layer of sweet maltiness. These notes all head off into the finish with the addition of a pleasing black tea like sensation that brings the whole thing together. This beers is fresh, rich citrus, robust, pummeling hops and yet manages to create a semblance of balance too. Wow! I need a keg or two of this.

aroma, tart and fruity, some grains? and yeasty.
flavors, malty, plenty of pinety hops, drinks like a soapy boozy DIPA with lots of hop flavors. Hints of honey like sweetness, fizzy citrus/tangy finish.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2011 Bottle. Pours a brownish burgundy with a very small light wooden brown head. Aroma has a combination of caramel and blood orange with a slight undertone of pepper. Flavor begins sweet with caramel but the finish brings a blood orange note that helps balance out the flavor nicely. There was a hint of spice and some coriander in the finish

Bottle:   Brownish caramel, very thick, large frothy off-white head, splotchy lacing.   That is one zesty hop aroma, very citrusy.   Smells like sweetened orange rind, much like the stuff you might squeeze from the peel.   It actually smells a lot like ruby red grapefruit with sugar on it!   Very similar on the tongue, wow... that is interesting.   Hoppy, yet not biting.   This mainly seems just simply citrusy.   A little bubbley on the tongue, some fizziness.   Lingering citrus zest and sweetness.   Very odd.   Can’t detect the 11.7% ABV at all.   Drinks like its half that.   This is very interesting, champagne like in its effervesense.   Not sure what to make of it.   Entertaining, if a little too much like drinking a beery ruby red grapefruit.   Thanks for the freebie Kevin!

Shared by Sleestack on the RBSG Friday Bus. Thanks, Man! This is great. Beautiful orange-brown color with just a little lace. Huge, spicy, pepper and orange aroma with wheat. It’s tart, with great orange. You can really taste the pepper. Smooth, a beautiful beer. Love it!

Growler. Thanks, BVC! Pours deep muddy brownish orange with a loose ring of grayish bubbles. No lace. Tons of sharp blood oranges hit you on the nose right away. A little sweeter and tangier than Campari, for sure, but you still brace yourself for that bitter jolt that you know is coming. Creamy medium body, and then the onslaught of flavor varieties starts--sweet pepperiness, dark spiciness, earthy notes, black bread, but, most of all, orange zest and that sharp blood orange bitterness that hits you like a wet towel snapping on the back of your legs. Bracing and refreshing, while still being ultra complex and interesting. A real classic for these guys--would be a shame to see it relegated to one-off status.

RBSG 2010 Keg: Coppery and reddish hue with a small and fading head which left no lace upon the glass, some oily legs. The aroma is quite fruity with tart orange zest, blood orange, apricot and plum along with a noticeable spiced character of corriander and white pepper. Some resiny and leafy hops along with white wheat, toffee and biscuity malts. The taste is both zesty and slightly sour fruit countered by some sweet malt character. Relatively spicy throughout with the peppers and floral overtones quite up front about their presence. A splash of hop bitterness and slight chalky wheat and yeast notes show up from time to time. The mouth feel is a bit surprising, not as heavy I expected nor as aggressive, still hardly easy and smooth with the peppery character and slight sourness keeping the palate alive. Not to bad but needs slight editing, I would try this again... sort of an Imperial "Witwine"

In short: A surprisingly drinkable (almost refreshing) 12% spicy beer with plenty of caramel and ruby-red grapefruits. Good beer.

The look: Strange color, opaque murky dirty red-amber body topped by a small pink-ish head
In long: Aroma is pleasantly unsettling, never smelled anything like that. I had orange peels, strong Bloody Mary sensation (including spices and even tomato juice). To be honest I’ve never eaten a single blood orange in my life so I don’t know what the blood oranges they used is supposed to taste like. To me the taste was dominated by ruby red grapefruits and bitter oranges peels. I suspect that that this is what a blood orange taste like. Maybe. This is very fruity, bitter and with a strong biting acidity in the finish. Also some caramel and a whole lot of spices but with no single spice jumping out. Not alcohol presence whatsoever and this is near 12% beer that doesn’t benefit from a thick decadent body to hide the alcohol. A good beer. This is a 12% beer that I drank all too easily. Something tells me I should cut down on my drinking. “Something” is how I’ve nicknamed my girlfriend when I’m drunk. “Hey Something, wanna play with my weiner?”
Something tells me I should really shut the fuck up.
