COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anniversary Ale is a high-gravity wheat wine made with blood oranges. Flavors range from the spiciness of green peppercorns to the tang of blood orange zest. Aggressive dry hopping of Simcoe hops amplifies the citrus overtones and spiciness found throughout the beer. Anniversary Ale typifies Short’s Brewing Company by embodying all of the complexities that come along with another year of brewing.

Bottle thanks to mikem409! The aroma was lively with the blood orange really coming through and a subtle smell of pepper. It really piqued my interest. The taste didn’t disappoint. The blood orange was just as strong as it was in the nose and the peppercorn gave it just the right kick. Really a unique beer that I’ve got to have again!

July 14, 2016. Bottle, shared by _angst_, thanks!
Light hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and malty with blood orange, peach, some grain, light spicy, earthy and herbal pepper corn notes, hints of alcohol. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and with a slight fruity tartness. Sweet malty and fruity finish with blood orange, peach, toffee, light bitterness, some warming alcohol and some spicy peppery notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of clownoisseur. Pours hazy pale golden with a small frothy offwhite head that leaves some spotty trace on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is malty, fruity and spicy with crackers, caramel, blood oranges grass, pepper corns, minerals, lemon zest and hints of alcohol. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, very tiny sour, malty, fruity and spicy. Mouthfeel is round, tiny tart, astringent, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and very tiny sour with caramel, blood orange juice and pepper corns. Cool but doesn’t quite manage to balance the different components.

Bottle. Oh Shorts, why must we keep doing this? I want to love you... but sometimes you make it hard. This beer is no exception to that frustrating rule that seems to be solidifying as of late. The beer looks fine enough (apart from the scuzzy-looking fizz head that sits on top of the lear orange body), but things fall apart in the nose... It’s hot, cidery and a bit chemical. Flavor is more of the same... alcohol is hot and poorly hidden, malt is not present enough to keep things from going cidery and thin and aftertaste is of metal and chemical junk. Maybe it sat too long in the fridge, but this one is a mess.

Draft: Poured a hazy dirty brown color ale with a small foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of dry wheat notes with some grainy malt notes is typical for style. Taste is a nice mix of dry wheat malt notes, light grainy notes, light residual sugar notes with some subtle blood orange notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not sure the flavours are well-balanced between each other’s but interesting nonetheless.

Bottle shared by Willrunforbeer, much thanks. Copper color with thin whispy head. Aroma shows me citrus, pepper, rasins and pine like essence. The flavor is an odd concoction for orange liquour, zesty peppercorn and a slightly syrupy texture over the palate. The alcohol is hidden pretty well at 10%. Honestly after 6 oz. I had enough. Not undrinkable, just very odd.
