4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2013 Probably the best beer Iíve ever had from Shortís. Incredibly lively orange sweetness goes perfectly with a thick, lightly spicy barley wine of caramel goodness. This beer owned. And I want more.
Has fallen a bit for me recently, this batch was too peppercorn-heavy to be really drinkable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks to jblauvs for this one. Very murky brown pour with a small fizzy head. Nose holds excellent and BIG orange presence (zest and fruit), coriander and further spices, pink peppercorn, and nice sweet malt presence. Really interesting nose. Flavor isnít quite as robust but still holds huge citrus presence with tart orange, lemon zest, and spice. Really phenomenal dryness to the palate, and ridiculously drinkable given the ABV. Very interesting, and I like it a lot.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very Murky brown pour with a fizzy white head. Aroma is bold orange fruit, coriander, some white pepper. Flavor is less intense than the nose, but still nice - herbal notes are restrained, not over the top. blood orange comes though in a big way, sweet fruit and bitter pith, the finish is surprisingly dry. Wow, probably the best shorts Iíve had to date. Very tasty

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013 Bottle. This is slightly less blood orange focused that some of the older versions I've had, however still quite good. Has strong orange zest flavor with grapefruit flavored hops (Amarillo?). Tastes sweet and smooth, with a nice crispness and booziness.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a translucent copper with no head. Orange zest and sugary malt with just a hint at peppercorns. Candied orange peel comes through as well. A little tartness sneaks in there in the finish. Interesting stuff.

Pours a delicious looking bright red orange color. A foamy egg white layer on the head. A very juicy blood orange aroma that really jumps out. The tastes really follow along with blood orange based flavors. A citrus candy like taste mixed in. A pepper note/small spice make an appearance in the back mouth feel. A really nice aftertaste with that berry orange flavor. A slight hop bitterness closes out the flavors. Really good. Very unique.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler. Thanks, BVC! Pours deep muddy brownish orange with a loose ring of grayish bubbles. No lace. Tons of sharp blood oranges hit you on the nose right away. A little sweeter and tangier than Campari, for sure, but you still brace yourself for that bitter jolt that you know is coming. Creamy medium body, and then the onslaught of flavor varieties starts--sweet pepperiness, dark spiciness, earthy notes, black bread, but, most of all, orange zest and that sharp blood orange bitterness that hits you like a wet towel snapping on the back of your legs. Bracing and refreshing, while still being ultra complex and interesting. A real classic for these guys--would be a shame to see it relegated to one-off status.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2010 2009 Handbottle. This smells incredibly insane. Wow. wow. wow. Nothing has ever put off an aroma like this. Incredibly rich, juicy syrupy candied orange and fresh hop resin. Glowing and intense. Thereís some pithier, rind-like orange character and some definite hop bitterness. But the combination of the palpable blood orange molasses and the fresh raging orange-like citrus cones is dense and out of this world. Pours a darker, sienna-tinted red-brown. Flavor is just as intense. Right off the bat the oranges come through and then a characteristic, slightly aged but still delightful hop leaf comes through. Shorts has mastered a real unique hop flavor profile and its here again. Actually, tastes much like last yearís in that regard. Iím not getting much wheat density, but the oily texture of the beer is probably that dimensions contribution. Starts with a good punch of orange and then runs long on a constantly morphing and unique hop run. A solid crisp snap of carbonation carries some orange rind spritz into my nostrils. Alcohol and sweetness meld well with the other characteristics of the beer. This is a pretty unique and incredible beer. A fantastic evening sipper. Thanks so much Sean. I canít believe I got to try this.
2010 12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Minimal light spice and fruit aroma. Pours in a brilliant ambered ruby. Flavors are piney and citrus-like, strong and tangy. Sugary and dense. Iím getting a little weary of the use of peppercorns. The citrus, wheat and peppercorns come through, but are an odd combination. Cleaner and tighter than my memory of last yearís batch. I think this would be world-class and stunning without the green peppercorns. The blood orange character is great and the strong ale brewing fine. Enjoyable to try again.

Snifter at the brewery. Pours a dark shade of copper - much like a barleywine - with a creamy tan head. Smells of black pepper, malt, and citrus. Tastes of underripe oranges, particularly the zest, along with plenty of malt, further pepper notes, and an unapologetic finish. A bit of a beast.

bvc you are the man, man for sharing this rarity. Shared this with some cool dudes on the roof of my girlfriends apartment. Cool dudes present were bvc, suzygreenberg, me, mj, tar, and after4ever. Super spicy hop nose, lots of orange citrus. Earth as well. Really intriguing nose on this one. Dark amber pour nice lasting head. The flavor is full of citrus and spice. Oranges, pepper, and earthy bitterness. Perhaps a little too spicy for my liking, but it still was fantastic nonetheless. Light alcohol warmth, but at 11.7% it was hidden well. Fuck yeah hoes! Hey Terrel Pryor, you should learn to go through your progressions please!
