Cloudy orange - brown beer. Caramel and hops on the nose. Slight soft palate, semi dry with low carbonation. Rich caramel malt with deep rich hops underneath, not that fruity but providing good bitterness. Carries on with more creamy caramel and a little sour note. Aniseed alohol at the end. Full on! A barleywine all the way!

Bottle…RBSG 2010… Pours murky and golden with a small, fat-bubbled, white head. Smells like it has some age on it – woody notes, dried apricot, dried plum and dried peach. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and kicked-back carbonation. Nice caramel backbone, but lacks any real sweetness – just a solid leg for the big, bad, juicy citrus hops to stand on. Bitter, abrasive, dry finish.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with hoppymeal (thanks!!). Tasted side by side by side (Original , Dry hop, & Grapefruit versions). Poured a medium and hazy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of fresh floral green hoppiness, caramel, some vanilla, pine, citrus, and a trace of woodiness. Tastes of floral hops, citrus, caramel, and vanilla. This one was also nice and bitter. The barrel aging was done nicely as the bourbon was in the background and added nicely to the overall experience.

Bottle shared by Floydster at the Stone Sourfest! Pours with a small white head over a clear golden body. Aroma of bourbon, hops, oak,and caramel. Taste is bourbon, citrus hops and caramel. Medium to low carbonation. I like bourbon, I like hops, and I like this.

Pours a slightly hazy orange copper with a thin ring of white head. Aroma of bourbon and lightly sweet caramel malt with some resiny grapefruity hops. Starts lightly caramely sweet and citrusy hoppy bitter with a big bourbon oaky balance. FInishes warming oaky and bittersweet. A decent double IPA.

3fourths (6932) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 30, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 1, 2008 Stinky hop fuel nose, some fusel orange cleaner, very sharp, stinky, fuel-like, ammonia-like... there’s got to be some chemicals in there. Up front there’s some vibrant sweetness and juiciness, but it quickly turns to maple coated dogfood and ammonia. Hugely sharp and putrid, heavily astringent. Difficult to like. Finishes like alcoholized dogfood.

Ughsmash (6665) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 1, 2008
Bottled at DLD. Poured clear grapefruity-brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma was just delightful.. dark, sweet grapefruit meat and pine with strong floral and perfumey accents.. heavy and hopped-up. The flavor was not so good.. it can be described as a rough, boozy mess actually.. sweet grapefruit and grain alcohol with pine and grapefruit bitterness at the finish.. unbalanced and unpleasant. Thick and boozy on the palate with rough alcohol-fueled bitterness.. long, warm finish with lots of residual sugars. This went way downhill from the initial impression.

Hazy dark copper body with a light yellowish khaki head. The aroma is massive grapefruit with some notes of black tea. There is also some medicinal quality, but it is complementary. The mouthfeel is thick and sticky. The taste has lots of rich grapefruit and leathery notes. There is also some oak character, but it is underneath the tremendous citrus character. There are also notes of almonds. This woudl have been pretty good without the barrel aging.
