3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 22, 2013
Bourbon barrel aged version. On tap at Short’s tap takeover at Churchkey in Washington DC, served in a snifter. Pours clear brandy with a small rim of bubbles and no head. The nose has fresh clean malts, along with delicate herbs. There is a hint of oak barrel, but it is very clean. The flavour is moderately sweet with malts, honey, grain and a touch of flowers. On the palate, it is medium in body with a silky smooth, syrupy texture. Overall, this is a decent strong ale, but the bourbon is not really apparent. 2012-06-09

On tap Birch & Barley Wash. DC. Pours a slightly cloudy caramel color with a small white foamy head that fades quickly. Aroma is rich, warm caramel malts with a slight woodiness and peat. Taste has some nutty malt and the essence of Bourbon and wood without the booziness. Light to medium body with low carbonation and very smooth.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dimenhetfield (2354) - , Florida, USA - JUL 27, 2012
Sampled at EBF. Pours a darkish brown color, think but not super thick. Aroma is a mix between vanilla and caramel, much of that comes through in the flavor as well. Definitely not boozy but a nice sipping beer.

Growler: The aroma consists of light caramel, toffee, earthy/nutty notes, and a touch of vanilla. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a two finger yellow tinged off-white head. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, and a hint of fruit. The finish has light nuttiness and a touch of vanilla. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 pushkinwow (1338) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 5, 2012
Sample from EBF Night of the Barrels. Dark brown with a tan head. Roasted malt, caramel with a bit of molases, vanilla, oak, alcohol, a bit of yeast, some plum and prune. Definitely sweet, moderate carbonation and full flavour yet slightly thin, thought there was too much alcohol at the end but maybe thats just something that needs to mellow with time. Enjoyable but not my favourite beer of the night.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 18, 2011
Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Fiery orange-red-brown body, thin tan head. Prominent tannic oak/bourbon nose, slightly tart, with caramel and sticky sweet brown sugar. Potent oaky body with dense brown sugar, candy corn, and prickly alcohol. Rich but rough and unfocused, harsher than many higher-gravity beers.

Draft sample. Poured hazy brown color with an average creamy light brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate toasted malt and dark fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy spice sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
