3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2013 Bottle. Pours a clear light orange color with a small foamy head that quickly fades, leaves some webbing. Aroma is very woody, sorta like cedar wood, with some flowers and orange citrus too. Taste is big on the woody forest taste with a hint orange. Light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Big pale malt taste is there too that you get from a good lager. Long dry, bitter finish. Overall, I like the woody taste but itís also very overpowering. Very dry too. Would be hard to drink more than one of these. Iím starting to see many more India Pale Lagers now. Does a new style need to be created here? Unfair to compare this to IPAís.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
this IPA had a clear light orange pour and it gave a one to two finger white head that receded to a thin cover and ring, the glass had a center stream that had a medium flow, it left nice spots of lacing on the glass, the bottom of the bottle had a layer of light brown sediment,
this ale had aromas of citrus, grass and faint pine hops, light toasted malt, orange, a little fruit sweetness,
there were flavors of pine, citrus and grass hops with light toasted malt, some orange fruit and very little sweetness,
the finish had a light hop bitterness that lingered on the mouth for a bit, and left the palate a little dry,
the mouth feel was light on the palate with a little creaminess and average carbonation,
a light IPA with pine and grassy hops, not big on the hops but enough to give some bitterness and to dry the palate.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to dogfish head IPA glass. Light gold with a slight haze and a frothy off-white head. Spicy hops, orange and a slight skunk in the aroma. Piney upfront and finishes with some biscuit and grains. Really spicy. Nice and light.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. The pour is a bold orange. The aroma is some hops, but a lot of the lager characteristics come through. The taste is a decent mix. A good hot summer day brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy dark gold with a bug foamy white head that lingers. Citrus aroma, of orange zest, hops, and a hint of grapefruit. Taste is bitter and smooth, starts a bit floral and orangey, then picks up a big hoppy bitterness and bready yeast, with some creamier malt and sugar. Lingering bitterness. Nice IPA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A big fan of this one. And one of my favorites of the lager style. Even though this is one of those hoppy type lagers that may not be a true lager. A great beer nevertheless.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at Shakespereís Pub, Kalamazoo, MI. Hazy straw yellow with mop suds of white on top. Kind of faint, very juicy grapefruit hop aroma. Very nice smell but wish it was stronger. Low carbonation and tingly mouth feel. Kind of dry finish thatís very bitter. Taste is also pretty bitter. Woodsy, piney aromatic and pert salty malt flavor thatís not super heavy. Fairly light and bitter overall.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled 5/3/13 and poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint on 5/17/13.
Appearance: A very hazy yellow with about two fingers of a pretty creamy looking head. Dies down to one, and eventually a film. Lacing is very nice on it.
Smell: Orange, piney hops, and not much else -- not that I mind. Very nice.
Taste/feel: Eek. Alright, so this beer smelled great, so I was expecting a world-class sort of <5% ABV beer... hopes too high. Beard of Zeus is just tragically unbalanced. While thereís actually a noticeable malt profile in this beer (unlike what I got in Hopstache), it doesnít seem to create much balance at all. Also much like Hopstache, Beard of Zeus is bitter from (mostly) beginning to end, and it lingers. I think this beer feels and drinks better than Hopstache (different styles of beer, I know... but I canít help but compare), but itís really unbalanced. I do love the aroma, look, and feel of this, but thereís not enough malt to cut the hop bitterness... much too bitter, at least at first, to be considered "refreshing", as well. On the plus side, once the beer warms up a bit, the malt flavor comes through a little bit more to cut some bitterness away. Additionally, the orange tastes seem to burst a bit more. This tastes much better after being out of the fridge for about 10-15 minutes... almost like an entirely different beer.
Regardless of all of the negatives, definitely one of the better sub-5% ABV beers that Iíve ever tasted.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Light yellow. Heavy citrus pineapple aroma. Couldnít really get on board with the spice and hop flavor as much as I would have liked. Interesting beer though.
