COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The hub of the village
Exactly what it says, “brown beer.” This is beer fermented from wort extracted from the hearty pale ale malt, toasted specialties, chocolate and munich selections resulting in a toasted brown color. Very light hop additions from the Cascade variety allows the sweet malty and caramel notes to shine through for duration of its time on your palette.

My go to brown ale. It’s malty and sweet and goes good with birthdays and birthday cake. It is one of the greats when it comes to brown ales.

Bottle from Sean - thanks! Darker brown pour with an initial froth of tan foam. Nutty, sweet malt, and light bitterness in the aroma. Maybe some slight dry roast. Taste is roastier but it’s mostly dominated by sweeter malt and nuttiness. Minimal bitterness in the taste. Decent brown on the sweeter side of the style spectrum.

This is a very average brown ale...I like it but nothing to set it apart from what is already there

From a bottle. Solid for the style. Malt forward. Not much of a hop presence, but full flavored.

12 ounce bottle poured dark brown with aromas of light malt, roast, some raisins, and light earth. Flavors are the same, an ok brown ale overall.

Bottle from Cask Pub & Kitchen and drunk at home. Dark brown beer with thick beige head. It has a touch of sourness, some brown malt, not much hop, some milk chocolate. Not sure I like the little touch of sourness on it. I mean it’s not a Flemish Brown is it?

12oz bottle. Amber-burgundy body, not much of head, some oily residue. Cherry Amber malt tones, some smooth caramel too. Very British yeast nuances, soft and raisiny. Pretty easy to drink at, but not really my favorite example of the style. Malty, lots of caramel flavor. OK, certainly a lot of flavor and well in the Brown Ale style.

Draft at HopCat in East Lansing. The pour is a reddish light brown, not the color I’d want to see. The aroma is very bland, almost as I’d expect, but there is a subtle sweetness to it that I had not anticipated. The taste is alright. Light, mildly aromatic, and then it finishes overly sweet. The mouth feel doesn’t let it linger too long, and that’s a positive thing.

Bottle. Dark brown with pretty minimal head. Not much that stands out in the aroma, some caramel and grain. Taste is fairly tame, caramel and light toasted malt. Pretty boring overall, not one of their better brews.
